Arizona Cardinals: Finally Something To Cheer For

Seth CoxMay 12, 2009

The Arizona Cardinals were in the Super Bowl, they were 37 seconds away from winning, and they have now become the most stable organization, the model franchise if you would, in the state of Arizona

Born and raised in Arizona, all I ever wanted was for my football team to be competent, maybe play well and make the season competitive.

They went above and beyond this season, they took us on a ride of a lifetime, and even though they came up short, it was something that I still cannot get over.

I mean look at the history of this team, just in their brief time in Arizona:

1988-1989: Gene Stallings for 27 games before the... forgettable Hank Kuhlmann took over for the last five games.

1990-1993: Joe Bugel, the coach of perhaps the greatest offensive line in the history of the NFL, received his first head coaching job. That lasted only four years, and the laughable part was, his best season was his last.

1994-1995: Aww the Buddy Ryan years, how I don't miss those. Seemingly started well enough, with an 8-8 season, but fell apart in the second year.

1996-2000: Vince Tobin, the man that should have a statue erected in front of the stadium. Lead the Cardinals to the freaking playoffs, this was on par with Columbus' discovery of the new world and the Jonas Salk's finding the vaccine for polio.

Ok, maybe that is a little much, but that is how pathetic they were.

2000-2003: Dave McGinnis, probably the most well liked of all Cardinals coaches, but the man was never given any talent to win.

2004-2006: Dennis Green was the coach and all I got was this lousy beer commercial.

2007-present: Well, I think we can call the mess of coaches before this just BW, before Whisenhunt.

Here we are, something that all Cardinals fans had always hoped for and never thought would come true. We are on the verge of having a real football team and becoming a real football town.
