Tennessee Volunteers Recruiting Class Gets Latest Boost with DaVonte Lambert

Jason HallAug 14, 2013

The Tennessee Volunteers added another piece to their already impressive 2014 recruiting class with the commitment of JUCO defensive end DaVonte Lambert. Lambert, who currently plays for Georgia Military College, is the No. 1 defensive end and the No. 4 overall player amongst JUCO prospects, according to 247Sports.

He is the latest prospect to join Butch Jones' heralded class, which is currently ranked No. 1 on Rivals. Tennessee also adds some much needed depth to the defensive end position, a necessity entering the 2014 season.

The Vols currently list seniors Jacques Smith and Marlon Walls as their starting defensive ends. With both players, as well as fellow senior Corey Miller, departing next season, Tennessee's defensive ends will lack experience.

With Lambert, the Vols gain a player who has played at the collegiate level for two seasons. Tennessee also has experience with JUCO defensive lineman making a quick transition to the SEC.

Starting defensive tackle Daniel McCullers made a successful jump from JUCO to the Southeastern Conference last season. McCullers spent his first two collegiate seasons with Georgia Military Academy, the same school as Lambert, before an impressive junior season in Knoxville.

Tennessee has finally made great strides in its rebuilding process with the 2014 recruiting class. If the Vols are capable of keeping the the majority of their commitments, the once proud program may finally return to dominance.
