Arsenal Transfers: 5 Late Deals Fans Would Love to See Happen
The summer transfer window is approaching its close. Arsenal badly need reinforcements and have just two weeks to make signings.
It's a worrying time for Arsenal supporters. They are worried that Arsene Wenger's infamous reluctance to spend money could prove their downfall. Time is running out, as is the patience of Gunners fans everywhere.
Go to the next slide to see the top five signings Arsenal fans would love to see before the window slams shut.
Luis Suarez
1 of 5Luis Suarez remains a hugely divisive and controversial figure. However, most Arsenal fans will be united about wanting to see the Gunners land their major transfer target before the close of the window.
Arsenal need to sign Suarez to save face and back up their claims of being a new financial superpower.
Early Wednesday their move for the Uruguayan appeared to be off after quotes emerged in the Mirror suggesting he was considering signing a new deal with Liverpool. However, Suarez has since claimed those quotes were wrongly attributed. The Independent reports that Suarez told Kyodo News:
"I didn't say it.
Maybe someone else did, [but] the main thing is that I am here now with the national team.
"
Arsenal's hopes will be renewed. Their is still time to sign a new star striker.
Lars Bender
2 of 5Although signing a forward remains a priority, there are other positions where Arsenal need to strengthen. Defensive midfield is one of the most pressing areas of need.
According to the Express, Napoli are leading the chase for Bayern Munich's Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo. The Italian side gazumped Arsenal to secure the signature of Gonzalo Higuain and could be set to do so again.
Should they miss out on Gustavo, Arsenal fans will be hoping they return with a new bid for another Bundesliga-based midfielder: Lars Bender.
The Guardian state that Arsenal made an £18.5 million bid for the powerful German back in June. A higher bid may tempt Bayer Leverkusen to sell their prize asset.
Ashley Williams
3 of 5Arsenal urgently need a new centre-half.
With Thomas Vermaelen injured, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are Arsenal's only fit senior centre-halves.
With Ignasi Miquel recently joining Leicester on loan, the situation has shifted from concerning to urgent.
John Cross of the Mirror believes Swansea skipper Ashley Williams could be a target. Williams would certainly fit the bill: He is powerful, a leader and classy on the ball.
Michu
4 of 5If Arsenal fail to sign Liverpool's Luis Suarez, they may turn to Swansea for one of Ashley Williams' team-mates: Michu.
Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail believes Michu could be Arsenal's "Plan B" if their move for Suarez falls through.
The Spaniard would be a viable alternative to Olivier Giroud and would also be able to play just off the Frenchman in the No. 10 role.
Julio Cesar
5 of 5Julio Cesar needs a new club. Despite being linked with a host of Italian sides, a move has failed to materialise for the goalkeeper, who is still marooned in the Championship with QPR.
Having sold Vito Mannone to Sunderland, Arsenal need a goalkeeper. Ideally, he would be someone with the experience to mentor Wojciech Szczesny without blocking his route to the first team in the long term.
Julio Cesar and Arsenal seem like a perfect match. The Daily Star claim that with Fiorentina having pulled out of the race for his signature, Arsenal now have pole position.
