Chelsea Transfer News: David Luiz Is Wise to Keep Quiet on Barcelona Transfer
It's wildly apparent that we won't get any insight over dealings between Chelsea and Barcelona from Blues star David Luiz.
As bountiful reports will have us believe, Barcelona is in hot pursuit of the defender:
However, it appears Chelsea rebuffed these advances while looking for a heftier payment:
While all this is going on, Luiz isn't shedding any light on where proceedings stand or how he feels. As Brazil prepares for international duty against Switzerland, Luiz made an appearance in front of the press.
When asked about Barcelona's interest and his future, Luiz, as quoted by Fox Sports, had this to say:
"I will only talk about the national team because this is all I can think about when I come here, that's how I think. It was like this in Brazil during the Confederations Cup, and it will be like this here. You (press) can try everything, but you won't get anything from me.
"
This, shall I say, was not a tepid statement. Luiz sounds like a defiant captive in an interrogation. I don't think the tricks of the press will break Luiz.
While I'm sure there are plenty of Chelsea fans who would rather he came out and said his focus is on Chelsea, I admire him for his statement.
Speculation about moves that may never materialize can drag on for months. Luiz wants to keep his focus on the pitch, and that is admirable.
He realizes as well as anyone that professional soccer is a business. There is a strong chance that he'll end up switching teams. As Palmeri notes, if a certain price is hit, Chelsea will forgo any loyalty to their player.
There is no reason for Luiz to go through the motions of pledging loyalty to a club when he knows they could ship him out at a moment's notice.
Of course, there is also the strong possibility that Luiz covets this move in the first place. According to John Drayton of the Daily Mail, Barcelona is under the impression that Luiz is going to tell Chelsea he'd like to move to Camp Nou.
This, obviously, makes his silence an even more preferred option. If Luiz does stick with Chelsea, that will be a far more enjoyable stay if he doesn't start telling anyone who will listen how badly he wants to leave.
Whatever the case, when it comes to news of his future, it is best to look away from Luiz to hear it.
