Underrated Stars That Will Shine
Miguel Angel Jimenez
While the Spanish star Jimenez won’t grab many headlines this week—unless a camera catches him stretching at the driving range—there are few players that have as good a shot at PGA glory as he does.
Jimenez doesn’t have a major championship victory in his career, but at 49 years old and playing the best golf of his life, he will have the patience and experience to tangle with Oak Hill and succeed.
Not only did Jimenez play great during the 2013 British Open from Muirfield, but the Spaniard also played exceptionally well at last week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, finishing fourth with an impressive six-under-par final score.
Keep an eye out for the charismatic veteran this week.
Brandt Snedeker
The expectations on Snedeker and how he will perform this week are down because of his 33rd-place finish at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but do not write him off just yet.
Snedeker won the RBC Canadian Open after finishing 11th at the 2013 British Open. While a lackluster finish may hurt his momentum, he has the physical and mental ability to dominate the field at Oak Hill.
If Snedeker can play smart off the tee, keep the ball on the fairway and putt as well as he did in the two previous tournaments in July, there is no question that he can contend for the PGA Championship this year.
