Cesc Fabregas Commits to Barcelona, Claims Dream Remains Playing With Club

Patrick ClarkeJun 4, 2018

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas appears to be committed to the helping the Spanish champions contend for titles in the coming seasons.

According to ESPN FC on Twitter, the Spanish starspeaking at a recent press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysiahas confirmed that he will remain with Barca despite serous interest from reigning Premier League champions Manchester United:

Fabregas added that it has always been his dream to play for the Catalan giants:

It was only two years ago that Fabregas' lifelong dream was realized when Barcelona signed him from Arsenal. The now-26-year-old played eight seasons with the Gunners before making the switch, scoring 57 goals and recording 100 assists in 303 appearances in all competitions.

During the press conference, Fabregas touched on his high-profile move from England to Spain in 2011, essentially pointing out that it would be a waste of time and effort for him to make the jump back to England after only two seasons in Spain, per The Telegraph:

"

I never had any doubt. It has cost me a lot to return to Barça and now I want to triumph here. Things have been invented. It's also not true that I have asked for a contract renewal.

"
"

I didn't have to clear up anything, because for me it was clear I wanted to stay. I told the club I'd talk when it was my turn.

I've always felt valued by the club. Everyone told me they count on me, I never got any sign that made me think otherwise.

"

While life doesn't appear perfect for Fabregas at Barca, it's clearly where he wants to be.

Though often times the veteran is forced to play out of position, his numbers (29 goals and 32 assists in 96 appearances) over the past two seasons prove he's a key contributor at Camp Nou.

After having two bids rejected by Barcelona, Fabregas' recent remarks have to serve as the final nail in the coffin for all of the Cesc-to-Old Trafford chatter.

Although they don't want to believe him, David Moyes and United have no choice but to move on in their search for a midfield boost this summer. Fortunately, the Red Devils have been linked to other topflight players, including Everton's Marouane Fellaini and Real Madrid's Luka Modric.
