England vs. Pakistan U-19 Cricket 2013: Complete Preview for 7th Match

Matt CheethamJun 8, 2018

After a frustrating 46-run defeat, England will be looking for revenge in their second clash against Pakistan on Tuesday.

The host nation have already suffered a pair of defeats in the Under-19 Tri Nation tournament and cannot afford any more slip-ups if they hope to reach the final.

With Bangladesh and Pakistan playing twice before this fixture, and England taking on Bangladesh 24 hours earlier, this game will be vital for the home side's qualification hopes.

Here's a look forward at Tuesday's key tie.

Who: England Under-19s vs. Pakistan Under-19s

What: Tri-Nation Tournament, Match 7

When: Tuesday, August 13, 10:45am BST

Where: Grace Road, Leicester

Previous Meeting

Pakistan eased to victory in the previous match between these sides.

The visitors reached an imposing 288-5 in their 50 overs, thanks largely to Imam-ul-Haq's steady century and some late hitting from Zafar Gohar.

England did not take enough wickets to contain their opponents and thus faced a daunting target of 289 runs to win.

Four wickets inside the first 16 overs all but condemned the hosts to defeat, although Harry Finch and Will Rhodes took England to 194-4 in the 40th over before a flurry of late wickets ended their challenge.

Key Players

Rhodes has been in scintillating form batting at No.6 for England, making up for some poor scoring above him.

The Yorkshire all-rounder smashed a century against Pakistan, finishing on 102 from just 83 balls and also taking three wickets.

Pakistan's bowling attack has been led by 16-year-old Mohammad Aftab who's been in fine form with the ball, already taking six wickets in his two innings. To put that into context, England have only taken nine wickets in this tournament.

It was Aftab's four wickets that sealed the win for Pakistan.

Prediction: England to win by 75 runs

England should have learned from two identical defeats and will have secured far more footage of their opponents to study.

Batting first should be a priority, if possible, and if Ryan Higgins, Lewis McManus and Haseeb Hameed can lay a better foundation, the likes of Rhodes and Ben Duckett can take England to an intimidating score.

Having looked pretty innocuous so far, scoreboard pressure should then help their bowlers find some rhythm.
