The Players Newcastle United Need to Sign This Summer

Marley AndersonJun 8, 2018

After weeks of rumours and dead ends, Newcastle has finally secured a new name for the upcoming season. Loic Remy has joined on a season-long loan from QPR, ensuring he doesn’t drop into the second tier of English football just six months after signing from French giants Marseille.

Joe Kinnear will undoubtedly be thrilled with his first signing since becoming the Magpies’ new director of football, but Toon fans will want more than just Remy’s signature by the time the season kicks off against Manchester City on August 19.

There are still more areas of the Newcastle side that need to be improved before the Geordies embark on the new season, meaning more painstaking negotiations for Kinnear and co.

Another striker is on the cards for the Magpies, with Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis the most likely man to join Alan Pardew’s side. A deal is reportedly on the table for the out of favour striker, although Lyon are continuing to play hardball over the transfer fee for the man who netted 16 goals last season.

Should the deal for Gomis come to fruition, it could mean a loan move for youngster Adam Campbell. The 18-year-old striker has impressed Pardew as he progressed through the youth and reserve sides, and it seems Pardew wants to give the diminutive goal scorer a chance to have a real crack at the first team.

Scottish side St. Mirren could be a potential destination for Campbell, as the Buddies manager Danny Lennon is a known admirer according to BBC Sport. St. Mirren took fellow Geordie youngsters Paul Dummett and Conor Newton on loan last season and both impressed, with the pair now looking to push for the first team at St James’ Park.

One more potential area for improvement is the left-wing department, with Jonas Gutierrez and Sylvain Marveaux the only natural wingers in the Newcastle squad. Names are being thrown around in the gossip columns, but no formal bids have been submitted yet as Kinnear attempts to continue his transfer success.

More arrivals are expected at St James’ Park in the next fortnight, as Kinnear begins to flex his muscles in his new role. Watch this space.
