Can Bendtner Fill the Gap for Arsenal?

Mohamed Eldin MasriMay 11, 2009

Hello, My name is Eldin and this is my first ever article on bleacher report, so please if anybody reads this, don't kill me....seriously.

For my first topic I'll talk about Nicklas Bendtner, who is receiving a mixed reception of sorts. Now, before anyone goes yelling "sell, sell, sell!" like a freak, let's keep in mind a few things:

1. He is barely 21 years old.

2. This is his first full season with the first team and he started a few matches from the bench.

3. He scored 14 goals so far this season and is the third top goal scorer for Arsenal.

4. He is one of the best headers (maybe even the best) in recent memory for this club.

5. He wears pink shoes.

Okay, this season we (the Gunners) have drastically under performed. The first step to fixing this is to admit that we were wrong. This is the first time Wenger went all out with an entire squad of youngsters and it back-fired so hard that we can't wait to see the end of this season.

However, Wenger himself said that this season wasn't necessarily a loss. We played a few of our youngsters and so far not many have succeded. Song and Denilson have ways to go and Diaby should play as a Defensive Midfielder (Wenger plays him on the leftside). The only one that I found to put a smile on our faces was Bendtner.

He's not great right now but in a while he could be, few would argue how precise his heading accuarcy is (he became the fastest player to score a goal after coming from the bench, and against Tottenham of all the teams in the Premier league), and how his chest control and first touch reminds us of bergkamp (no matter how high the ball is he still gets it under control).

True, his 1-on-1 is on the weak side, but that is something that can be fixed. And let's not forget that unlike Adebayour, he actually helps the defence when he is needed. Yes, he did go to a night club after we beat ourselves against Manchester, but that was a mistake he can learn from (besides, they don't call him the great dane for nothing).

The main question is: If Arsenal sell Adebayour, can Bendtner fill in the gap?

I, for one, think he can. I don't even think that we should buy a new attacker if we sell Ade, I think we sould buy a great CB and a great DM and let Bendt, Eduardo and RVP handle the offense. We've been scoring with no problems so far (when we ran dry for a few games, it was Bendt that scored first), but we have conceded the most in the big four and that is the main problem that would ruin our chances next season.
