UFC 163 Weigh-In: Complete Results and PPV Card Predictions

Mike HoagJun 2, 2018

Fighters are weighed in, predictions have been made and now it’s time for UFC 163 to go down.

Before it does, though, you might want to take a look at how each fighter stacks up against one another with a recap of Friday’s weigh-in.

Just one competitor came in over weight. John Lineker weighed in above weight, coming in at three pounds above.

There’s always time for a last-minute prediction too, right? We’ll get into that after breaking down the weigh-in.

The highlight of the night was the large reception for hometown hero Jose Aldo. Although uneventful for the most part, here’s a look at the two squaring off following their successful weigh-ins:

PPV Card Weigh-In

Chang Sung Jung (145)vs.Jose Aldo (145)
Phil Davis (205)vs.Lyoto Machida (205)
Thiago "Marreta" Santos (183)vs.Cezar "Mutante" Ferreira (185)
Tom Watson (185)vs.Thales Leites (185)
Jose Maria (126)vs.John Lineker (129)

FX PRELIMS Weigh-In

Anthony Perosh (205)vs.Vinny Magalhaes (205)
Sheila Gaff (135)vs.Amanda Nunes (136)
Neil Magny (171)vs.Sergio Moraes (170)
Iliarde Santos (125)vs.Ian McCall (125)

Main Event: Jose Aldo (145 lbs.) vs. Chan Sung Jung (145 lbs.)

The “Korean Zombie” certainly brings an impressive challenge to the table. He’s tough, well-round and a capable takedown artist. Unfortunately for him, Aldo is even more productive in that regard and is the featherweight champion because of that.

With only one loss and fighting in front of his hometown crowd, the electric striker and competent defenseman will be too emotionally charged for the Zombie to handle. Look for Aldo to end things early after the two go toe-to-toe.

Prediction: Albo by KO, Round 1

Phil Davis (205 lbs.) vs. Lyoto Machida (205 lbs.)

If Phil Davis, a powerful and athletic wrestler, can stay with the quick movement of Lyoto Machida around the Octagon, he could challenge the former champion in the points tally. However, Machida is a master of his domain and has perfected his movements. He’ll take his lumps but will ultimately pick and choose his spots effectively enough to earn his 20th MMA victory.

Prediction: Machida by unanimous decision

Thiago “Marreta” Santos (183 lbs.) vs. Cezar “Mutante” Ferreira (185 lbs.)

Nothing really to see here. Thiago Santos is fighting on short notice and up a weight class. It shouldn’t be too hard for the well-rested winner of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, Cezar Ferreira, to come in and make short work of his competition.

Prediction: Ferreira by TKO, Round 2

Tom Watson (185 lbs.) vs. Thales Leites (185 lbs.)

It’s been four years since Thales Leites stepped inside the UFC Octagon to showcase his talents. Despite his absence, he’s maintained a prominent place amongst the world’s top middleweights.

Tom Watson is certainly an entertaining fighter, but it’s hard to imagine him warding off the tremendous grappling of Leites. Look for Watson to get caught off guard early and submitted before this thing has a chance to go any further.

Prediction: Leites by submission, Round 1

Jose Maria (126 lbs.) vs. John Lineker (129 lbs.)

Lineker was the lone fighter to fail the weigh in and will have to surrender 20 percent of the purse to Jose Maria, according to MMAJunkie.com. He was afforded an additional two hours to cut weight but declined that offer.

Overall, Lineker’s slight weight advantage shouldn’t play a big factor in the outcome of this one. He’s a veteran fighter coming off of back-to-back wins and squaring off against a 31-year-old UFC newbie. Go with experience and proven performance every time.

Prediction: Lineker by unanimous decision
