Manchester United Transfer Rumours: Cristiano Ronaldo and Latest Red Devils Buzz

Mike HoagJun 8, 2018

Manchester United are on the verge of securing Cristiano Ronaldo if the latest transfer rumors are to be believed.

Real Madrid, the starโ€™s current club, have reportedly been in talks with United for nearly two weeks, according to Duncan Wright of the Daily Star.

The move would cost United roughly ยฃ80 million. Itโ€™s looking more and more likely to happen, too.

Madrid will need to ship Ronaldo out if other recent rumors are true. They have reportedly agreed to pay Tottenham a record ยฃ105 million in exchange for Welshman Gareth Bale, according to Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror. However, no move has been confirmed by Tottenham.

While Unitedโ€™s summer transfer period has been underwhelming at best to this point, securing Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford would be a huge boost for the Red Devils.

In 2009, Ronaldo helped lead the club to their last Champions League triumph. He rose to superstardom playing for United andย it would be fitting to watch him come back to help guide the club back to European glory.

Wayne Rooneyโ€™s Future Hanging in Ronaldo Balance

The holdup in the Ronaldo negotiations is also affecting the immediate future of Wayne Rooney, according to Wright.

He claims that, despite the clubโ€™s insistence that they want to keep Rooney, they would be willing to part ways with him once a big-name signing has gone through.

Mixed feelings are currently in the air between Rooney and the Old Trafford faithful, prompting the striker to yearn for a move to Chelsea, according to ESPN UK.

Chelsea, however, are waiting for Rio Ferdinandโ€™s testimonial game before making a further move, according to Matt Hughesย of the Times. They are banking on a poor reception for Rooney to help drive him away from United and towards Stamford Bridge.

Third Timeโ€™s a Charm for Fabregas?

Cesc Fabregas is reportedly staying right where he isโ€”Barcelona. Thatโ€™s according to multiple statements by manager Gerardo Martino, vice president Josep Mario and teammate Javier Mascherano, according to Alex Hankin of the Daily Mirror.

However, that isnโ€™t going to stop United in their pursuit of the Spanish midfielder. The club is set to make a third bid of ยฃ40 million after their previous two bids were turned down by Barca, according to Sky Sports.

Unitedโ€™s David de Gea, teammates with Fabregas on the Spanish national club, is pitching him to make the switch.

"He will have to make the decision whether he wants to stay or join us,"ย de Gea said. "It would be a very good signing and he would help us improve greatly."

While de Gea may have a point, all accounts from Barcaโ€™s camp indicate they are going to decline any offers for their star midfielder.
