Arsenal: Arsene Wenger Insists the Gunners Are 'Still Working' on Transfers

James McNicholasAug 1, 2013

Arsene Wenger took part in his first-ever Google hangout today, answering questions from Arsenal fans across the globe. The video is now available to watch above.

Wenger was in a chatty and amenable mood as he dealt with a number of queries. Unsurprisingly, the subject of transfer activity was raised. Arsenal fans are understandably concerned by the fact that at this point in the summer, only young French international Yaya Sanogo has arrived.

Wenger suggested that Arsenal are still seeking to snare their targets. He said, "We are still working on improving our squad, but we have a basis of young players here."

It's clear that Wenger has great faith in his youthful core, but Arsenal supporters will be reassured by his admission that the club are working hard to bring in new players to supplement their existing squad.

Wenger's desire to improve his team is driven by a deep desire to return Arsenal to trophy-winning ways. Attempting to explain what motivates him 17 years in to his Arsenal career, Wenger said:

"

They say there are two kinds of people: those who hate to lose, and those who love to win. I personally hate to lose, because I think always that is failure... I love to win as well because people think that the style of play that I love has triumphed when you win games.

"

Arsenal fans hate to lose, but after eight years without a trophy, they yearn to win again.

Wneger's confidence is unwavering. He sees Arsenal's task next season as a simple one: "I believe that the target is to transfer that confidence that we have gained in the final part of the championship in to the new season."

That sounds simple enough. However, in order to maintain that outstanding form, Arsenal may require fresh blood.

Arsene Wenger's faith in his current crop of players is admirable. However, it will come to naught if the existing squad is not augmented by new players.
