QUESTIONS STILL HAUNT THE EAGLES?

John LeonMay 11, 2009

Donovan McNabb said at the end of the 2008 season, that he wanted to wait and see what kind of upgrades the Eagles made before signing an extension. he has mentioned, many times, that his team needed more play makers to compete. With the Draft in the rear view mirror some thoughts abound.

Did the Eagles get enough to satisfy their QB? Maclin and McCoy certainly add to the depth and with Leonard Weaver being the bruising fullback they have lacked it woulds seem that the short yardage problems and stretching the field issues are gone.

There is one question that remains, will Andy Reid finally use this talent to it's full advantage? His play calling has been more than suspect and with his pass first, second and third mentality, Maclin would seem to benefit most. So this question will have to wait for the answer. How conservative will he be when he needs one or two yards?

Will the offensive line gel quickly? For the first time in recent memory, the Birds will have 2 new tackles in Stacy Andrews and Pro Bowler Jason Peters which should be an upgrade, especially Andrews who will start next to brother Shawn. This signing was more for off the filed than on it in my opinion.

Who will step up and be the leader now that Brian Dawkins is gone? McNabb? no. Stewart Bradley? maybe. Asante Samuel or Quintin Mikell? possibly. Any way you slice it, the chemistry is fractured and if this valuable part is not repaired, it may not matter what kind of talent is out there on the field. Someone has to step up and quickly, you just hope that there isn't a false bone in their body because it will show on the field and the last thing the fans want is another talking head that can't back up the talk.
