Chelsea Transfer News: Don't Expect Blues to Sell David Luiz to Bayern Munich
Chelsea defender David Luiz has been linked to Bayern Munich this summer, but Munich manager Pep Guardiola has insisted the club isn't interested in acquiring the 26-year-old, according to ESPN FC.
Guardiola said at the presentation of the Audi Cup preseason tournament, via the report: "He's not coming to Munich. We've got four or five central defenders. There is no truth to the speculation.”
You can take the 42-year-old at his word.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho also said in June that there was "no chance" Luiz would be sold this summer, according to Dominic Fifield of The Guardian. While there were rumors that the Blues offered £10 million plus Luiz or Juan Mata for Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, those rumors were quickly shot down by the club.
Oh yeah, and Luiz isn't interested in moving, either.
According to Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Luiz said (h/t ESPN FC): "I do not like the rumours about me and the possible departure. I have a contract with Chelsea until June 2017 and do not want to talk to other clubs."
Obviously, Munich wouldn't mind adding Luiz this summer. He had a strong season for Chelsea last season, scoring some brilliant goals down the stretch against Basel in both legs of the Europa League semifinals. Plopping him on the roster would only make the defending Bundesliga champions even more formidable after they posted 91 points last season.
But it doesn't appear it is a realistic possibility that Munich will land Luiz, nor is there a whole lot of room on the pitch, as Guardiola noted.
In the end, the rumors of Luiz headed to Allianz Arena will be just that—rumors. Neither club appears to be giving any credence to the reports, and Luiz is apparently happy where he is.
Look for Munich to start the 2013-14 Bundesliga campaign out with Luiz still in the fold.
