Survey Says!: 10 Questions for Brandon Jacobs

Jeff ShullMay 10, 2009

Sometimes there are stories you hear about players that make you wonder: "What would I ask him given the opportunity?" Well, if I had a sit-down with Giants tailback Brandon Jacobs, these are 10 questions I would love to ask him.

1. How did you get to be so big and still play RB?

This is the first and most obvious question. The guy stands at 6'4", 260 pounds, prototypical for a linebacker or small defensive end. I would love to know how he kept himself in running back shape, which is very different from most positions because they take a beating every time they get the ball.

2. Do you use critics saying you're too slow and not a home-run threat as motivation?

People say all the time that he does not have break-away speed. He has proven on multiple occasions that is not the case.

3. Who came up with the nickname of "Earth, Wind, and Fire," and how do you feel about it?

Giants 2008 backfield was dubbed this nickname, I'm curious to see who thought of it and what Jacobs thinks about it.

4. Do you think Ahmad Bradshaw and Danny Ware will fill the void left by Derrick Ward?

Derrick Ward left for greener pastures, and the Giants will turn to these guys as back-ups for Jacobs, I wonder if Jacobs thinks they will perform well.

5. What do you know, if anything, about Rookie draft pick Andre Brown?

I'm curious to find out if he watched or heard anything about Brown in college.

6. Now that you can reflect, how did you feel being at the same college as fellow NFL running backs Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown?

He went to Auburn before transferring to Southern Illinois to finish his college career.

7. Did you use playing second fiddle to them in college as motivation when you transferred to Southern Illinois.

Before the 2004 season, Jacobs transferred so he would not have play third string behind Williams and Brown. I wonder if he wanted to show them what they could have had.

8. How did you feel when Auburn wanted you to play linebacker?

Before he transferred, the Auburn coaches asked him to try and play linebacker; he responded by transferring.

9. How good were your skills on defense? Could you be as successful as a linebacker as you are as a running back?

If he had actually made that transaction, I wonder how much pain he could have caused.

10. Do you find solace in the fact that you are just as good if not better than your Auburn teammates in the NFL?

Cadillac Williams suffered severe injuries after his rookie season and Ronnie Brown has been inconsistent, but still very good. One could make the argument Jacobs is the best of the three in the NFL, and I wonder how he feels about that.

If I ever had the opportunity to meet and talk to Brandon, I would definitely ask him these questions, among others.
