Round 1: Nigel Bond Defeats Peter Francisco 3-2

English veteran Nigel Bond was expected to comfortably defeat amateur Peter Francisco when they met in the first round of the competition, but he had to fight to make it through.

The South African, clearly excited by the occasion, played some of his best snooker and pushed Bond all the way in an exciting five-frame match.

Bond, who was once ranked fifth in the world, eventually came out on top, but could count himself a little lucky to have made the quarterfinals.

His inconsistent form continued in the last eight, as he was comprehensively beaten, 3-0, by China's Liang Wenbo.

Quarterfinal: Aditya Mehta Defeats Joe Perry 3-2

When world No. 19 Joe Perry faced a man 55 places below him in the rankings, the Englishman was expected to cruise into the semifinals. Aditya Mehta had other ideas.

Perry, who won his first—and only—ranking tournament at the Yixing Open earlier this year, started strongly and won the first frame.

Mehta immediately battled back and took the second frame before Perry regained the advantage by winning the third.

The Englishman appeared to be on the verge of reaching the semifinals, as he took a commanding lead in the fourth frame, only for Mehta to steal it at the death.

Mehta had built momentum and he dominated the fifth and final set, managing a break of 50 for which Perry had no answer.

Mehta has since defeated Dechawat Poomjaeng, 3-1, to reach Tuesday's final.

Bronze Medal Match: Dechawat Poomjaeng Defeats Igor Figueiredo 3-2

In a match for the first medal of the competition, Dechawat Poomjaeng and Igor Figueiredo battled it out in a thrilling five-frame encounter.

The Thai player, ranked 64th in the world, would have been expecting to triumph easily over a player ranked 61 places below him.

But Brazilian Figueiredo, who demolished China's Lyu Haotian, 3-1, in the quarterfinals, put up a strong attempt to win bronze.

He managed to take two frames before Poomjaeng's class shone through, and he won the match, 3-2.
