According to NewsOK.com, the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents has approved the extension:

"

"The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents approved a two-year extension to football coach Bob Stoops’ contract Thursday afternoon.

"

The report also provides final contract details:

"

The action, which extends Stoops’ contract through the 2020 season, includes no pay raise or other changes to Stoops’ current deal, an OU spokesman confirmed.

Stoops, 52, is set to earn $4.55 million this year, his 15th as the Sooners’ coach. Regents last extended his contract in September 2011, when he agreed to a seven-year deal worth $34.5 million before bonuses."

---End of Update---

Stoops, who played football at the University of Iowa, took his first head-coaching job at Oklahoma in 1999 and has since established himself as one of the most successful head men in NCAA football. After his Sooners went 7-5 in his first season, Stoops took Oklahoma to a 13-0 record and defeated Florida State for the national championship in 2000.

Since then, Oklahoma has finished in the AP Top 10 seven times in 12 years, failing to reach the 10-win mark just twice.

Overall, Stoops has a 149-37 (.801) record to go along with victories in the Orange, Rose, Fiesta, Holiday, Sun and Insight Bowls. He has eight Big 12 championships, one AP Coach of the Year award, and three Big 12 Coach of the Year awards.

According to the OU athletics report, Stoops has produced 65 NFL draft picks, 33 First Team All-Americans, 18 national award winners, and two Heisman Trophy winners, not to mention several assistant coaches graduating to successful programs of their own.

It's safe to say Coach Stoops has earned himself some job security.

It's unclear what the details of his new contract are, but in September 2011, the Sooners extended Stoops through 2018 on a deal that would pay him $34.5 million over seven years.

Stoops was already one of the highest-paid coaches in America, but it will be intriguing to see how close this extension brings him to Alabama's Nick Saban ($5.62 million per year) or Texas' Mack Brown ($5.2).
