Paging Paul Pierce, Paging Paul Pierce, you are needed in game four of the Eastern Conference Semifinals...
Let me make it clear before I write this article, Paul Pierce is my favorite player and I am extremely biased when it comes to defending him compared to other players. However, I am also extremely honest about him.
I don't think there is much debate when I say Pierce is the best player on the Celtics. With or without KG, I feel that way. I think he is the best player in this series period. I know Dwight Howard is also playing in this series, but give me Pierce any day of the week.
Right now, the Celtics are in serious threat of going down 3-1 in their series vs the Magic. Defending champions or not, they are not coming back from 3-1. Not without KG. It's just not happening.
So where does that leave the Celtics?
In some serious need of some "truth" serum, that's where. We, yes I said we, need Paul Pierce to play like the top five player I feel he is. You know, that guy that came out in game three vs Chicago and set the tone for that game in the first quarter.
That guy that absolutely took over in the fourth quarter and overtime of game five vs Chicago, hitting his last five shots and carrying the team to a victory. The guy who tried to take over in the second half of game three vs the Magic yesterday. We need that guy!
Not the guy who had atrocious turnovers down the stretch of game four vs Chicago. Not the guy that fouled Joakim Noah, to foul out, after yet another awful turnover in game six vs Chicago. Or the guy who had four fouls and three points in game two vs the Magic. We don't need or WANT that guy.
We need The Truth! We need the Captain! We need the reigning NBA Finals MVP! That's the guy we need and WANT! Oh so desperately too.
The way Paul played in the second half of game three, yesterday, vs the Magic was brilliant. It really was vintage Paul Pierce. Going to the hoop with the mindset of "I'm scoring or you're fouling me." End of story.
He attempted fourteen free throws in the second half, making all fourteen, compared to attempting not a single one in the first half.
We need that aggressive player the WHOLE game, not just for spurts.
Here's the bad thing though...
I am very concerned that his second half effort may have been fool's gold. If you watched the game, you remember that Dwight Howard was basically on the bench for the majority of the time he was "going to work". He was going to the hoop vs Gortat. Gortat maybe a solid backup center, but he's not the reigning D.P.O.Y or "Superman".
Paul needs to have that mindset regardless. I don't care if Dwight blocks five of his shots in the first four minutes of the game. I really don't. He needs to stay aggressive, look to attack and look to be the skilled player on the court that he is.
Here's the good thing...
I fully expect Paul Pierce to be brilliant tomorrow. Why, you ask? Because he is the definition of a "clutch" player. He has ice water running through his veins. In the biggest game of the season, no way in hell will the Boston Celtics Captain, Paul Pierce, go down without scratching and clawing.
I can assure you Boston Celtics fans of one thing, if we do lose tomorrow night in game four, it won't be because of "The Truth". Rest easy knowing that.
