Tiger Tangents: Grading the SEC APR Style
The APR reports are out or the Academic Progress Reports for those of you that forgot that college athletes should actually be getting an education as well as playing football. Plus it's nice when they graduate. When I saw the list, and where LSU was slotted I thought we'd take a little quiz today. No cheating!!!
It's simple, I'll give you an SEC school and you tell me whether they did better or worse than LSU in football APR. This may be tougher than you think.
Arkansas
Well I had to toss you a softball. Arkansas scored a 927 but that wasn't in the same ball park as the Tigers. Worse.
Ole Miss
Actually it's not good news for the Rebels who scored a 910, well off the mark for the required 925 and the worst mark in the SEC. Worse.
Vanderbilt
No trick question here. With a score of 969, Vandy scored higher than LSU. But they weren't the highest scoring school in the SEC. (Better)
South Carolina
Nope, the Gamecocks made it past 925 but just barely at 929. (Worse)
Tennessee
The Vols didn't catch the Tigers here scoring a 949. (Worse)
But they tied with
Auburn
Those other Tigers however just beat out...... (Worse)
Kentucky
The Wildcats just finishing a shade under the Vols and Plainsmen with a 948. (Worse)
Florida
The Gators finished just three points ahead of LSU and hop skip and a jump away from Vandy's score. (Better)
Mississippi State
The Bulldogs have bragging rights over the Rebs in this score column but not LSU with a 933. (Worse)
Alabama
The Tide rolls in with a 955 which is better than Auburn but not LSU. (Worse)
Georgia
Last on this list is definitely not the least, in fact, the Dawgs had the best APR score in the conference with a 976 which tied for eighth best in the country with Penn State. (Better)
The schools that beat out UGA for the top spot in descending order: Stanford, Air Force, Rutgers, Duke, Rice, Navy, and Miami.
LSU was 23rd in the country with a 960. Just three points behind that darn Tulane Green Wave.
It's nice to not be near the bottom of the list for once.
