Jake Peavy Worth Watching

White Sox starter Peavy finally returned to the mound on Friday, this time with a number of intrigued scouts watching.

According to Fred Mitchell of the Chicago Tribune, at least six scouts from across baseball were in attendance this past weekend as Peavy—coming off a cracked rib—earned a win against the Atlanta Braves.

Teams like the Washington Nationals could be in the running for his services, although Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post noted that Mike Rizzo, the Nats general manager, wants to wait to see how Ross Detwiler is healing before rushing into anything.

Peavy is under contract through 2014, so the right-handed hurler could be an asset for Washington—or another team—going forward.

Keep a close eye on this situation, as there is a good chance the 12-year veteran is on the move within the next couple of days.

Yankees Trying to Swing Trade

The New York Yankees are traditionally a buyer during the deadline, but this year they are looking more like sellers.

New York is attempting to deal two pitchers that once held a lot of promise in Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain.

According to Rosenthal, the Bronx Bombers are hoping to unload Hughes and Chamberlain before the deadline.

Rosenthal noted that Chamberlain may be on his way to the National League, while Hughes could still end up anywhere.

These inconsistent pitchers still hold some value to certain squads—especially in the NL—so it wouldn’t be surprising if suitors emerge this week willing to give them a chance.
