MLB Trade Rumors: Tracking All the Latest News

Zak SchmollJun 8, 2018

With less than 10 days until the Major League Baseball trade deadline, the rumors are beginning to intensify. Those borderline contenders need to decide whether they will be buying or selling.

Naturally, the potential deals evolve every day, and it is hard to keep track of them all. That is why I am going to provide you with an update on five of the bigger deals that might be going down shortly.

The Boston Red Sox Want to Go Big

1 of 5

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Boston Red Sox are potentially interested in Alex Rios, Michael Young or even Jake Peavy. In a way, each of these potential targets can certainly be an upgrade, but in my opinion, Peavy would be the best decision if he actually becomes available.

The Red Sox have been relying on a variety of starting pitchers to fill in holes this year, and adding a better arm to the mix would certainly be appreciated. In the playoffs, you want a solid starting rotation.

The Red Sox Are Not the Only Option for Peavy

Alfonso Soriano a Possibility for the New York Yankees

3 of 5

It would be interesting to see Alfonso Soriano come full circle and return to the New York Yankees years after being traded for Alex Rodriguez.

According to Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, Soriano might be on the radar because of his resurgent performance. He does have 17 home runs, and his batting average is actually at .260. The Chicago Cubs would have to eat a lot of his paycheck, but it definitely could happen.

Francisco Rodriguez in High Demand

4 of 5

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox (they are everywhere) and the Detroit Tigers are heavily scouting the former save-machine.

He finally looks like his old self with a 1.09 ERA through 25 games. Of all of these teams, Detroit probably needs him most desperately, but with the injury to Andrew Bailey and because the Red Sox are involved in almost every rumor on the Internet, you canโ€™t count them out either.

Jason Kubel Given a Chance to Rebound

5 of 5

It is safe to say that Jason Kubel needs to find a new home where he can find a fresh start. Last year, which was his first year with Arizona Diamondbacks, he hit 30 home runs and drove and 90.

This year, he only has five home runs and 27 RBI. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe suggests that the Arizona Diamondbacks might be open to moving him for a pitcher, and that might not be a bad idea for all parties concerned.
