British Open Purse 2013: Full Earnings and Final Standings

Phil Mickelson won the 2013 British Open in style and took home enough earnings to make one's jaw drop.

Thanks to an impressive final round in which he shot a five-under par, Mickelson took home the Claret Jug and some serious cash. For his win, Lefty earned £945,000 ($1.43 million). 

That's quite a haul for four days of golf.

After playing brilliantly throughout Round 4, Mickelson closed out the tournament in style, making a clutch birdie on No. 18, as noted by ESPN's SportsCenter:

After winning the Scottish Open leading up to the British Open, it's clear that Mickelson has figured out how to play links golf. His final-round 66 tied Zach Johnson for the best round of the tournament. 

Clutch, indeed. 

Second-place finisher Henrik Stenson posted his best career finish in a major championship, as noted by Michael Johnson of Piretti Golf, earning £545,000 ($823,167) for his efforts:

As far as consolation prizes go, there are worse fates, to be sure.

Every single golfer who finished in the top 15 earned over $100,000, and even those who finished at the bottom of the pack took home a nice chunk of change.

The Open Championship this year was a treat for golf enthusiasts.

High drama, excellent weather, pristine shotmaking and gutsy, clutch putts gave fans plenty to cheer about. Mickelson's final round was the perfect cherry on top of the extraordinary weekend at Muirfield. 

The world's best only have a couple of weeks to disengage from this taxing challenge and prepare for the next. Beginning on Thursday, Aug. 8, Mickelson, Tiger Woods and the PGA Tour's top players will reconvene at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., for the 2013 PGA Championship.
