Fifteen Burning Questions for Clinton Portis

Korey BeckettMay 9, 2009

Imaging yourself sitting in front of Clinton Portis. One of the NFL's most eccentric personalities in a chair about five feet in front of you. What would you ask him? Well, I have an idea about what I would ask the man, just a couple of hundred yards shy of No. 15 on the all-time NFL rushing leader's list.

I've had my experience interviewing athletes, but if I ever had the opportunity to sit in front of such an outstanding person, these are the questions I would love to ask him—

1. Clinton, you have such a magnetic personality, what do you attribute it to?

2. People love your alter-egos; where on Earth did you ever think up such personalities?

3. You inevitably will be the most prolific rusher in Washington Redskin history, did you ever imagine yourself becoming the face of such a storied franchise after people like John Riggins and Larry Brown preceded you?

4. What did you think when people called you a "system running back" when you were in Denver?

5. Your first touch with the Redskins was a 64-yard touchdown run, did you think that after that run, the rest of your career would be easy?

6. Many so-called "experts" still don't include you in the NFL's elite because they don't think you are a "home run hitter". Do you feel this is false?

7. When all is said and done, do you see the Hall of Fame in your future?

8. The loss of Sean Taylor obviously affected you and everyone else in the franchise, do you honor him on a daily basis or is it more of an on-field celebration of his life?

9. The University Of Miami has a tight fraternity in the NFL, how often do you cohort with other members of the U?

10. How do you feel about Jason Campbell possibly wanting out of Washington?

11. This team has a multitude of talent, do you feel the team is ready for a Super Bowl run?

12. It seems that every year the media picks the Redskins to finish no better than third in the NFC East, what would you like to say to those media members?

13. Your mother fended for herself nicely in Philadelphia, which is considered to have the toughest fans in the NFL, but would you rather she sit with Mr. Snyder if given the opportunity?

14. A couple of years ago, some fans (myself not included) wanted Ladell Betts to start in front of you as he had a big year when you were injured. Did you pay attention to these cries for Betts to start?

15. If you could tell a Redskins fan that has been chomping at the bit since 1991 (the last time they won the Super Bowl) anything, what would it be?
