Barcelona: How the "Twittersphere" Reacted to Tito Vilanova's Resignation

Barcelona's confirmation on Friday that Tito Vilanova had resigned from coaching the Blaugrana produced a massive global reaction.

Such was the shock and disappointment mutually shared amongst football fans around the globe as Sandro Rosell announced of Vilanova's resignation via a press conference that many took to social media site Twitter to express their thoughts, causing a worldwide stir with many pouring in tributes to the now former Barca coach.

"After looking at routine tests, there is [now] an option to continue treating his disease which means it will be impossible for him to continue as first-team coach of FC Barcelona." Rosell told reporters per Goal.com.

"It is a very big blow, a huge blow. But Barcelona has overcome many obstacles in its history and this will be no exception."

This announcement prompted numerous messages of support directed at Vilanova with four-time Ballon d'Or Champion leading the tributes.

His son also issued a statement via Twitter saying: "Tito is not retiring. He will just concentrate on the most important game of his life."
