NHL 2013-14 Schedule Released: Full List of National NBC-Televised Games
It's been 25 days since the national NHL audience on NBC heard Doc Emrick's voice.
It's only 73 more days until he—and the sport of hockey—return to the airwaves.
The release of the 2013-14 NHL schedule on Friday afternoon also included a complete list of nationally televised NBC games, courtesy of NHL.com.
NBC will carry 17 games on its mother station, equal to the 17 in the lockout-shortened 2013 regular season, along with a whopping 99 on the NBC Sports Network.
Included on the slate is the newly minted Thanksgiving Showdown (Rangers vs. Bruins) on the day after Thanksgiving, the annual Winter Classic (Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings) on Jan. 1, and a second outdoor game (Rangers vs. Devils) on Jan. 26.
Regional broadcasts will occur more often this year than ever before, with a number of spring Sundays featuring two NBC-carried games in the same time slot. Audiences will be divided by location in regard to which matchup they receive.
While the usual East Coast and Original Six biases remain evident in NBC's programming, this autumn's new division switch-up does provide a moderate dose of refreshing variation.
Meanwhile, NBCSN will carry nearly every franchise at one point during the season, with unconventional markets Los Angeles and Minnesota facing off in only the third NBCSN contest of the year and a plethora of smaller-profile teams also appearing in the ensuing months.
The events that air on NBC, however, will undeniably shape the public profile of the NHL this season.
Make sure to set your calendars now, because a complete list of NBC-televised games in the 2013-14 campaign falls below:
