Training Log: The Anvil of Crom, Day 14
INSPIRATION: JOHN PASCO
Today’s Colin Timberlake Training Inspiration is a man who, in the vein of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lee Haney, trains with intensity and focus.
And in the vein of Ed Whitlock and Skip Hall, does so without acknowledging the “fact” that people his age are expected to be sitting in rocking chairs and shaking a cane at the kids cutting through their front lawn.
So what is John Pasco doing training for competitive bodybuilding in his 70s?
After a diagnosis of prostate cancer at age 69, the former airborne paratrooper and war veteran took on a new battle against the disease and upon his recovery, joined a gym to simply regain a semblance of health and fitness.
After achieving some gains, he was struck by a second bout of cancer. This time, he maintained his focus through a course of radiation therapy, salivating at his return to the gym.
Shortly thereafter, he joined forces with trainers Dror Erez (former Mr. Israel) and also received advice from top bodybuilding pro Gunter Schlierkamp. He was soon on the stage and competing with strong final placings.
I spoke with John and learned that not long ago, age finally caused him to take a step back from bodybuilding due to worn discs.
So what did John Pasco do…invest in a comfortable rocking chair and the full satellite package for his wide screen TV?
