Manny Pacquiao Dares Floyd Mayweather to Fight Him
When everyone thought the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao saga was over, Pacquiao heated things back up when he dared Mayweather to fight him in a interview with ABS-CBN News (h/t The Ring) if the two are victorious in their upcoming fights.
"I can prove to him I can still win. I lost to Marquez but it's just a lucky punch, just part of the game. I was not dominated. If he (Mayweather) wants to fight, let's fight," Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao went off on Mayweather for comments he made at the various stops on his recent multiple-city tour to promote his September fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, which included saying that Pacquiao's career was over.
For those comments Pacquiao called Mayweather "cocky" and said that he is "all talk" because the two have tried to make a fight between them happen for years with no luck.
If Pacquiao beats Brandon Rios in their November bout and Mayweather beats Alvarez in September, expect the Mayweather-Pacquiao talk to heat up once again.
Making the fight at this point may prove more difficult than ever as Mayweather is in the midst of a six-fight deal with Showtime and figuring out if the bout would be on Showtime or HBO would prove to be a touchy topic.
Pacquiao is backed by Top Rank Promotions, fighting exclusively on HBO, and with the news of Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse being added to the already hyped-up Mayweather-Alvarez card, one would think HBO would try to land the fight on their network at all costs.
The addition of the Garcia-Matthysse introduces another twist to the Mayweather-Alvarez card. It is speculated that the winner of that bout may be next in line to face Mayweather if he is successful on September 14, as pointed out by ESPN's Dan Rafael.
So even though this will get the Pacquiao-Mayweather hype train rolling again, don’t expect the fight to come to fruition, as there are more roadblocks than ever this time around.
