Dan Miller, Frankie Edgar Talk Pivotal UFC 98 Fights

MMADieHards.comMay 8, 2009

Often times, you can point to one fight that catapults a fighterโ€™s career. Two fighters are hoping that fight happens at UFC 98.

Dan Miller and Frankie Edgar joined MMAMadness.com to discuss their upcoming fights, and what a win could do for their careers.

Miller has faced a merry-go-round of opponents in the last week. Yushin Okami, his original opponent, was forced to withdraw due to injury, and was replaced by Ed Herman. Herman, however, was almost immediately replaced by Chael Sonnen.

Miller was never concerned with who he was going to fight.

โ€œ[Iโ€™m] ready to fight, [it] doesnโ€™t really matter who [my opponent] is,โ€ Miller said.

Miller recognizes that a win could launch him into the top five of the middleweight division, and one step closer to a title shot. When that happens, Miller wonโ€™t shy away from the competition.

โ€œI like to fight guys that are better then me,โ€ Miller said. โ€œThat way I do have to get better every time I train.โ€

As for Edgar, he faces stiff competition in the form of former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk.

โ€œItโ€™s one hundred percent the biggest fight of my career,โ€ Edgar said.

โ€œI know Sherkโ€™s explosive. Heโ€™s strong. He comes in great condition, and I try to do that myself,โ€ Edgar said. โ€œIt has all the ingredients to be fight of the night.โ€

One of those ingredients is that both fighters are known for their aggression. Edgar doesnโ€™t foresee a long feeling out process.

โ€œHeโ€™s going to be Hell on Wheels,โ€ Edgar said. โ€œI think weโ€™re going to meet in the middle pretty quickly.โ€

Notable at UFC 98 is the influx of East Coast talent on display. Miller and Edgar both train out of New Jersey, and they are at the top of a talent pool that continues to get deeper.

โ€œJersey guys are hardnosed guys, blue collar guys,โ€ Edgar said.

โ€œ[The East Coast has] had a lot of great talent for a long time,โ€ Miller added. โ€œWeโ€™re starting to get that opportunity. I think weโ€™re starting to get the reputation that we have great fighters out here.โ€

With wins at UFC 98, Miller and Edgar can ensure that the East Coastโ€™s reputation gets a little stronger.
