New NBA Free-Throw Rule Explained

The Boston Celtics Introduced the 'Sad Three' with Saddest Photo of All Time

Dan CarsonJul 16, 2013

Behold—the Sad Three.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, the image the Boston Celtics used to show off their new marquee players is summed up in two sentences.

“We know. We're not thrilled, either.”

The Celtics posted the image of Keith Bogans, MarShon Brooks and Kris Humphries receiving their jerseys on Instagram Monday. The image was spotted by Barstool Sports, and by the looks of it, you could spread the energy in the room on a saltine cracker—the tiniest, crumbliest cracker there ever was.

Granted, it has to be difficult for these three to come into Boston knowing the shoes they’re (not) expected to fill. Replacing Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen isn’t a slice of key lime pie, and many Boston fans will harbor resentment toward the franchise's new faces as their team attempts to transition into its post-Big Three era.

But this is just hilarious.

Ironically enough, the only one attempting to smile is Humphries, the player whose name is reportedly being shopped in trade talks alongside Gerald Wallace, per CBSSports' Matt Moore. The Celtics are currently over the limit of players they can keep on their active roster, and Bogans and Brooks look as though they also feel their days in Boston are numbered.

Either way, you're receiving a jersey, not surviving the Dust Bowl.

There has to be some well of enthusiasm from which these men can plumb a smile to flash during a highly publicized ceremony such as this.

Or maybe there isn’t. Maybe there is no shred of happiness left in this room besides the close-mouthed boy-grin of Brad Stevens. Maybe the Sad Three ran out of coffee. Maybe it’s Maybelline.

Cue up “The Lonely Man,” Boston fans.

It’s going to be a long year.

You sad, bro?
