Smackdown Thoughts: Judgment Day Looms (Show Spoilers)

Gerald NgMay 8, 2009

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

We start off with a Chris Jericho, Teddy Long, Jeff Hardy, and Rey Mysterio segment. It's a nice way to build the main event, which is Jericho vs Hardy—if Jericho wins, he gets added into the main event at Judgement Day.

Mike Knox vs R-truth

With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers

What does WWE see in Mike Knox? He has absolutely no charisma and a horrendous beard doesn’t help. There are better big men out there—not to mention that he has a generic finisher.

How much further does R-truth have to be buried before he gets released? He hits a finisher, but Knox barely takes two seconds to kick up.

Michelle Mccool vs Gail Kim

Here are the two best female wrestlers on Smackdown in a match. It has to be good, right? There were several high spots in the action and it was at a relatively fast pace for a women’s match.

I would love to see more of the two together.

John Morrison vs Charlie Haas

The hints are here. It seems that WGTT is getting back together.

I hope that they don't put Morrison back into a tag team. He deserves to get his shot to show that he can be a face.

Edge vs CM Punk

It was a good match, but we all know that it will not lead to anything between the two. It was a smart way to end the match without making the current champion look weak.

What we do know is that Punk would probably not be using his MITB suitcase anytime soon. It's been two weeks, and there's still no explanation as to why he’s picking on Punk.

What followed was another pointless segment between Eve and Layla that repeated what happened last week.

Either way, I hate this angle. It shows how worthless the Diva Search is.

Dolph Ziggler vs Great Khali

Dolph gets himself disqualified. That outcome intensified the heel heat, and, yet, it didn't make either wrestler look weak.

Getting a jobber like Jesse or Funaki to job to him would have made more sense, but I guess they wanted to cut down on television time.

Jeff Hardy vs Chris Jericho

The thing about this matchup was that we didn’t really know how it would end. Chris Jericho could just have easily been inserted into the main event and it would have been seamless.

I love how Chris Jericho is making himself the nemesis whom nobody likes.

Plus, a quick feud with Mysterio would keep him occupied for the next PPV, but I'm guessing it's main event time for the codebreaker soon.

It was another solid Smackdown—good matches, good plots, good buildup. I would think that, right now, Smackdown's storyline actually beats the plot of RAW.
