Oakland Raiders! Who Can Cover Us?

Jake GipsonMay 8, 2009

Has anyone really stopped to think about the offensive weapons the Oakland Raiders can put on the field? I haven't read one article that actually explained it so that fans of other teams could understand.

Just consider for one moment that JaMarcus Russell can toss a bomb as well as any quarterback in the NFL, and that even half of the game Michael Bush had in Tampa last year would be impressive—and he has the potential to do it consistently.

Now they've got Darrius Heyward-Bey, Darren McFadden, and Johnnie-Lee Higgins on the field...together. What secondary can cover those three guys simultaneously? Who actually has the speed? That is 4.3, 4.3, and...4.3 speed all together.

Is McFadden a playmaker? Has anyone out there ever said anything otherwise?

Has Higgins showed what he can do with the ball in his hands? Did anyone see his three touchdowns last year?

Can Heyward-Bey be a No. 1 guy? Have you viewed his highlight reel?

I'm giving all the other teams out there a break. Can Russell throw a bomb? Are you kidding? Can Bush have a 90-yard game? Ask the Bucs. I haven't even said anything about Justin Fargas running, Zach Miller's consistency, Chaz Schillens' height and speed, McFadden as a running back, a Wildcat-style offense, etc...

Just the basics: A) Their quarterback has a cannon, B) their running back corp is talented and diverse, C) their receivers are lightning fast. If you think other teams' defensive units aren't going to be losing sleep on Saturday nights, you are kidding yourself.

Take it a step further. Three to four years from now, this same group can be playing together still...and just hitting their stride. We've got years of domination just over the horizon, and the last couple games of last season proved it.

With Bush in the backfield and those three receivers on the field, the Raiders are going to be a threat to any defense. Now they've got depth and youth, a great staff of experienced coaches, a good attitude in the locker room, and nowhere to go but up.

Thank you, Al Davis.

Watch out, NFL, because the Oakland Raiders are back.
