Cleveland Cavaliers: Five Down, 11 To Go
With the playoffs well underway, many are surprised by Cleveland's consistency. The two road victories that wiped Detroit out were shocking.
I will admit, I felt that there was no chance the Cavs would sweep any series—let alone against Detroit.
Lo and behold, Mo Williams, AKA "The Dagga"—let's face it, the man needs a nickname.
He has morphed into some form of hybrid shooting guard for this team. Delonte West's increased minutes are a result of Daniel Gibson's continued decent, leaving him to man the point guard duties for the second unit.
It is Williams' who has the ability to push the ball with controlled speed and aggression, mixed with the gift to get his shot off from anywhere at anytime. On any other team his shot selection would be unacceptable, but when you play for the Cavs it is all gravy baby.
The weakness for this team still exists; scoring and lateral defense in the frontcourt will hurt the team in Atlanta. It is interesting that LeBron James has yet to have a "bad night" thus far in the playoffs.
As long as the 30 points and 10 rebounds per game keep coming, the Cavs' not-so-glaring weaknesses will continue to lay dormant.
Going forward, it will be very important for Mo Williams not to let his opponent off the offensive end. He has already proved that he can hold his own on the defensive end.
Sure, one expects the Cavaliers to win Thursday night, although there is something else to Cleveland's improbable run—the threat of yet another sweep in this year's playoffs.
The sum of the parts are there to do it. If Wally takes the ball to the basket more, "Booby" comes in a little closer to shoot, and Andy plays within the game, I am very eager to place this team in the "perspective" category—despite the fact that they have not won anything!
It has to do with the fact that LeBron James has now surpassed Shaq as the league's irresistible force.
As "King Willie" so frankly put it in Predator 2: "There's no stopping what can't be stopped, no killing what can't be killed."
