Twitter Weighs in on Newest English Premier League Transfer News

It has been one week since the English Premier League transfer window has opened and some moves have been made.

But more often than not, these deals have not happened for one reason or another.

With plenty of time left until preseason matches start, there are still plenty of big names left on the market looking to make a big move.

Let’s let some of our best soccer minds guide us through some of the rumors surrounding EPL transfer window.

Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain

After Cavani’s roller coaster of a Confederations Cup, where he played very well at times and looked just as lost at others, it looks he will snub some EPL targets join PSG next season.

There was much debate regarding the Uruguayan forward's price, but in the end, he demanded the 63 million euros that was originally discussed.

As a fan of the game, this move is just boring. Cavani should test himself in one of the best leagues in the world, the Premier League or La Liga, instead of simply taking the money in an easier situation.

The former Napoli striker will be successful next season next to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but because of his unimportant move, we will never know if we can compare him to some of the best strikers in the world.

Jozy Altidore to Sunderland

The big news this week was regarding Jozy Altidore and his potential move to the English Premier League.

He tried this once with his short stint at Hull City, but that situation was much different than now. Ives Galarcep of Soccer by Ives agrees that this stint will ultimately be a good move for both Sunderland and Altidore.

Anyone who has watched Altidore for the last few years knows that he is a much more skilled player now than he was just three years ago.

While this move is as good as done, the main question United States soccer fans will ask regarding the transfer is if Altidore will get playing time. Steven Fletcher was the lone striker last year so his playing time will definitely be in question.

However, Paolo Di Canio will look to play with at least two forwards next year. And according to Ray Hudson of SiriusXM FC, Di Canio’s intense coaching will help out the USMNT starter.

Jurgen Klinsmann will certainly be watching his development closely next season with the World Cup coming up next summer.

Wayne Rooney to…somewhere?

Wayne Rooney has been by far the most interesting transfer candidate to date during the transfer window thus far.

The latest news regarding the Rooney transfer news is that he has to submit a written transfer request if he wants to leave Manchester United. Ian Darke of ESPN asked a very interesting question about Rooney and his relationship with the fans.

Rooney is one of the most beloved English international and Manchester United players of the last 10 years and this small lapse of judgement should not be enough to lose the respect of his fans.

Notice I said "should."

Sports fans, and soccer fans specifically, are very shortsighted. Unfortunately, the last thing fans will remember about Rooney’s time at Manchester United will be his lack of playing time and questioning of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Rooney might be on a new team next season and he might continue to be a Red Devil, but fans should remember the incredible talent that Rooney brought, like this goal against rival Manchester City, regarded as one of the best goals of all time.

Ultimately, Rooney could be in an Arsenal jersey if Manchester United is willing to sell within the EPL. We will see as the transfer window continues this week.
