PSG Transfer Rumours: 5 Biggest Names Said to Be Laurent Blanc Targets

Ian RodgersJul 2, 2013

Laurent Blanc is settling into his new role as Paris Saint-German head coach after being appointed last week.

The former France defender and coach has succeeded Carlo Ancelotti, who has joined Real Madrid, and signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

Ancelotti took full advantage of the war chest handed to him by ambitious club owners, the Qatar Investment Authority, and brought in the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Beckham to bolster his squad.

Now Blanc is being linked with a number of moves for more high-profile players as he aims to make an impression on the Champions League and a successful defence of the league championship.

Here we look at the five biggest names to be linked with a move to the French capital this summer.

Edinson Cavani

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani is one the most-coveted signatures of this summer and his form last season has not gone unnoticed in France, according to Le Parisien.

The French newspaper has reported that PSG sporting director Leonardo has spoken with Pierpaolo Triulzi, an agent for the Uruguay international (via ESPN).

And, according to Sky Sports, PSG have now lodged a £50 million offer for Cavani.

Cavani, who scored 29 times in 33 league appearances for Napoli last season, is the subject of a move to Chelsea, according to Sky Sports, while Manchester City baulked at the £53.5 million buy-out clause in the player's contract, as BBC Sport reported.

A move for Cavani may also convince striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to remain at the Parc des Princes as Bleacher Report writer Jonathan Johnson highlighted.

Wayne Rooney

The future of Wayne Rooney at Manchester United remains far from certain, as Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail reported.

The England international has been strongly linked with a move to PSG in recent weeks, most recently according to Jack Wilson of the Daily Star.

Rooney also came top of a supporters' poll in Le Parisien to survey which world striker was favoured to partner Ibrahimovic, as the Daily Mirror reported.

All this came before Blanc replaced Ancelotti, but the former France defender will not baulk at the possibility of Rooney partnering Ibrahimovic next season.

Blanc also has personal experience of Rooney after playing against the forward while he was with Everton and the PSG boss was playing for United between 2001 and 2003.

David Luiz

David Luiz has already sounded out Brazil teammates Lucas Moura and Thiago Silva about the ongoing project at PSG, according to ESPN.

The Chelsea star has now been linked with a move to the French club once Blanc has settled into his new role, according to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old Luiz played an integral role for the Stamford Bridge club last season as they won the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League under interim boss Rafael Benitez.

However, any move for Luiz will rest on returning Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's view of the player ahead of the new season.

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye will soon be the subject of a £20 million bid by PSG, according to Louise Taylor of The Guardian.

The France international hinted at a possible move away from the Tyneside club in a recent interview with Canal+, as reported by The Guardian.

Blanc gave Cabaye his senior debut for France in a friendly against Norway in August 2010, and Cabaye also played at Euro 2012 under the former Manchester United defender.

Hernanes

Lazio midfielder Hernanes admits he has been "flattered" by reported interest in him from PSG, according to L'Equipe (via Sky Sports).

However, Lazio president Claudio Lotito insists there has been no contact from PSG for the 28-year-old, as Corriere dello Sport reported (via Goal.com).

Hernanes played a starring role for the club as they defeated local rivals AS Roma to win the Coppa Italia last season, but the team finished only seventh in Serie A.
