UFC 162: Predicting the Fight Night Bonuses
The UFC returns to pay-per-view this weekend when UFC 162 comes live from Las Vegas. The card boasts a number of top talents in the company, with the keystone fight being a middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.
Additionally, there are top-10 featherweights galore on the card. Former champion Frankie Edgar will meet Charles Oliveira in the co-main event, while Cub Swanson will battle Dennis Siver. Add two middleweight affairs on the main card, and you have a great weekend of fights.
Here are predictions for the event's fight night bonuses.
Knockout of the Night: Edson Barboza
1 of 3Rafaello Oliveira did a very brave thing in the spirit of UFC 162: He took a short-notice bout against lethal striker Edson Barboza.
If Oliveira values his consciousness, he will try not to strike with Barboza. However, Barboza is good with footwork and will likely plant Oliveira with some nasty combinations.
Everything Barboza throws has power and beauty. It will earn him a bonus check from Uncle Dana and Co.
Also in the running: Anderson Silva, Tim Boetsch, Seth Baczynski
Submission of the Night: Gabriel Gonzaga
2 of 3Dave Herman doesn't believe in jiu-jitsu. Gabriel Gonzaga is a firm believer in jiu-jitsu. I smell a tapout brewing here.
Herman has been knocked out in the UFC, but he was also tapped out in his most recent fight against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Gonzaga, like Nogueira, is a high-level jiu-jitsu artist who will look to test the American's defenses.
I have a feeling it will be an armlock, but it may be a choke. Either way, Gonzaga will be a heavy favorite for taking home a bonus check.
Also in the running: Roger Gracie, Chris Weidman
Fight of the Night: Frankie Edgar vs. Charles Oliveira
3 of 3The co-main event and the main event may be neck-and-neck for best bout of the night. Seeing Edgar and Oliveira's styles collide could make for the better fight.
Oliveira likes to strike, though he has great jiu-jitsu. Edgar has great boxing technique, though he is a good wrestler.
That clash of styles is bound to have fans on their feet. Win or lose, both men could get a handsome bonus.
Also in the running: Anderson Silva-Chris Weidman, Cub Swanson-Dennis Siver, Chris Leben-Andrew Craig
