According to Jason McIntyre of Big Lead Sports, the NCAA has opened up an investigation of North Carolina Tar Heels shooting guard P.J. Hairston. The basis for this investigation is said to be the link between Hairston and NBA agent Rodney Blackstock.

The News & Observer's Andrew Carter provides this quote from UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham:

“We’ve been aware of the McLemore-Blackstock case since May 4,” Cunningham said, referring to the date when USA Today published its story about Blackstock’s payments to McLemore’s AAU coach. “And we’ve been doing research and finding as much information about that situation as we can to ensure that we don’t have any issues associated with that.”

Hairston was North Carolina's leading scorer in 2012-13, averaging 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 23.6 minutes of action.

If Blackstock's name sounds familiar, it's likely because he was involved with another high-profile shooting guard. According to Eric Prisbell of USA Today, Blackstock paid Ben McLemore's AAU coach $10,000 to sway the star guard's decision when selecting a new agent.

McLemore is now in the running to be a top-five draft choice.

This isn't the first time Hairston has come under scrutiny. Per Derek Rowles of ABC 11, Hairston and two friends were recently charged with possession of marijuana and driving without a license. Scott Gleeson of USA Today reports that police also found a firearm when they stopped Hairston and searched his rental car.

Prisbell recently reported that UNC coach Roy Williams had not decided on Hairston's future with the team before this latest report came to light.
