Arsenal vs. Liverpool: Halftime Thoughts

Dakota RubinApr 8, 2008

The first 45 minutes in Anfield have been something special.

For all out there who thought this could be a 0-0 draw, you were very wrong. Both teams are creating great chances and the two goals were fantastic.

Diaby's rocket in the 13th minute came after almost 10 minutes of constant pressure from the Gunners.

Just as in the first leg, an Arsenal opener seemed to inspire Liverpool and lead to Hyppia's cracking header in the 30th minute.

For the first part of the half, Arsenal controlled all the play and looked to be in total control. But as the half drew to an end, Liverpool looked like the much more dangerous side.

We have not seen the end of the scoring in this one.

Here are some things that both teams will have to do to win.

Liverpool

Fernando Torres has to get involved. His first half was incredibly disappointing, and if Liverpool has any chance to win and advance, they need Torres to create chances.

The back four need to get organized. It got slightly better as the half progressed, but Benitez needs to get his defenders in order if they are going to prevent Arsenal from adding another goal.

Arsenal

The midfielders need to control possession.

It all starts with Cesc, who is struggling with the constant nagging from Mascherano. If the Gunners want to get another goal, they are going to need their leader to take over and control the middle of the pitch.

They need to take advantage of their chances.

In the first 15 minutes, Arsenal could have had at least two goals but could not connect their passes or were caught a step offside.

In a game of this magnitude, the teams need to take advantage of every chance.

These teams know each other so well and based on the first half, we are in for quite a treat in the second.
