Capitals-Penguins: Ovechkin and Crosby Trick Twice in Washington

GoucheMay 4, 2009

Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin dominated Monday night’s game between the Pittsburg Penguins and Washington Capitals—living up to the hype in the process.

It is fantastic for everyone in hockey when superstars play like superstars!

Both did tonight, as they each recorded a hat trick.

For Ovechkin, it was his first of his career in the Stanley Cup playoffs and the first for the Capitals since the 1993 postseason.

Meanwhile, two of Crosby’s three goals can be attributed to Mike Green’s failure to cover him.

This is the first time that two players from opposite teams scored hat tricks in the same postseason game since 1996, when Joe Sakic and Trevor Linden did it.

What can you say about the shot of Ovechkin now? Lethal! It is almost a foregone conclusion that when the puck leaves Ovechkin’s stick, it is going in.

There isn’t too much to say as to which team played the better game but we know both team's superstars were at the top of their games.

The fact is Washington squeaked out a one-goal win, and now lead the series two games to none.

If there is one other factor in this game, it is the fact that Varlamov did a superb job of holding back the Penguins during a five-on-three, when Pittsburgh was putting up a real threat.

All fans are now looking forward to Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. Can it get any better? I am at the edge of my seat!
