Capitals-Penguins: Ovechkin and Crosby Trick Twice in Washington
Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin dominated Monday nightโs game between the Pittsburg Penguins and Washington Capitalsโliving up to the hype in the process.
It is fantastic for everyone in hockey when superstars play like superstars!
Both did tonight, as they each recorded aย hat trick.
For Ovechkin, it was his first of his career in the Stanley Cup playoffs and the first for the Capitals since the 1993 postseason.
Meanwhile, two of Crosbyโs three goals can be attributed to Mike Greenโs failure to cover him.
This is the first time that two players from opposite teams scored hat tricks in the same postseason game since 1996, when Joe Sakic and Trevor Linden did it.
What can you say about theย shot of Ovechkin now? Lethal! It is almost a foregone conclusion that when the puck leaves Ovechkinโs stick, it isย going in.
There isnโt too much to say as to which team played the better game but we know both team's superstars were at the top of their games.
The fact is Washington squeaked out a one-goal win, and now lead the seriesย two games to none.
If there is oneย other factor in this game, it is the fact that Varlamov did a superb job of holding back the Penguins during a five-on-three, when Pittsburgh was putting up a real threat.
All fans are now looking forward to Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. Can it get any better? I am at the edge of my seat!
