Real Madrid Manager Tracker: Latest News and Rumors on Replacing Jose Mourinho

Tre' AtkinsonJun 8, 2018

As the summer transfer window continues to drag on, there is a hole at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Jose Mourinho has left the Santiago Bernabeu, and Real Madrid is now on the hunt for their next manager.

It seems as though the club is unlikely to make any moves this summer until a new manager is appointed. That in itself could cause problems if the issue becomes a drawn-out saga.

With Madridistas everywhere hoping for a decision to be made soon, this article will provide daily updates on all news regarding the next Real Madrid manager.

Make sure to check back here every day to find the latest rumors and headlines about who could be the next man to lead Los Blancos.

Fabio Capello

It looks even more likely now that Carlo Ancelotti will make his way to Real Madrid, and all this thanks to Fabio Capello.

Sky Sport Italia (h/t Football-Italia) has recently broke the news that the former England manager has become the top target for PSG over Andre Villas-Boas. The French club does not see Capello as a long-term option, but rather someone who can command the club until Arsene Wenger’s contract with Arsenal expires.

If Capello does make his way to PSG, then it is rumored that Roberto Mancini could take over his spot as manager of the Russian National Team.

But Madridistas know all too well what this could really mean.

These reports have been headlining for quite some time now. If Capello does join PSG then Carlo Ancelotti would finally be free to take over as the new Real Madrid manager.

Zinedine Zidane

The possibility of former Real Madrid star Zinedine Zidane taking over for Jose Mourinho has come under a bit of scrutiny.

Marca has reported an interview with Garcia Remon in which the former Los Blancos manager touched on the topic of Zidane taking command of the club. In this interview he had these words to say:

"It's premature to say that 'Zizou' can manage Real Madrid. Right now that is just a question without an answer. We don't know and cannot say who will arrive.”

Remon has noted that Zidane does not have the experience that other potential managers do. His argument is that at a club like Real Madrid, the manager must stand tall and be an experienced leader.

While Zidane was certainly a leader and prolific figure in his playing days, his managerial exploits are yet to be tested.

PSG Target Andre Villas-Boas

3 of 6

It appears as though there is a big possibility that PSG could allow Carlo Ancelotti to leave for Real Madrid. But for that to happen, the French club must first have his replacement ready.

Matthew Dunn of The Express has recently reported that PSG is now targeting current Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas as their next manager.

Villas-Boas impressed many last season while leading Tottenham to a strong finish. But making a move to PSG would not be easy. Villas-Boas has a release clause of £10 million that would have to be paid if he is to leave his current English club.

Despite what steps PSG are taking, this news will be taken well by Madridistas. If PSG is looking for a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, it looks as though he will be making his way to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Carlo Ancelotti

4 of 6

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has made it clear that his eyes are fixed on Carlo Ancelotti.

In a recent EsRadio interview reported by Football-Espana, Perez spoke on why Ancelotti is his prime candidate. The Madrid president also addressed his awareness of the issues currently going on at PSG. He had these words to say.

“At this point we need a Coach who really knows us and the Italian Carlo Ancelotti knows us because four years ago I tried to sign him and could not. If he can get out of his PSG deal, we are happy, and if not, very well, but I do not think this issue will last long.”

It is clear that something will be happening very soon. Real Madrid knows exactly who they want, but with PSG reluctant the Spanish club could be forced to look elsewhere.

Zinedine Zidane has been touted as a possible managerial candidate at Real Madrid and Florentino Perez recently chose to discuss the matter.

Marca has reported an interview the Real Madrid boss recently conducted in which he stated that he “Would love Zidane to manage Real Madrid.” However, his words did not end there.

Perez went on to explain that he believes Zidane wishes to coach before making such a large step as managing Real Madrid.

He then went on to explain that Carlo Ancelotti remains the top target this summer, but that Zidane could work alongside the Italian if he is able to exit his current club, PSG.

Carlo Ancelotti

6 of 6

Carlo Ancelotti may be be the next manager of Real Madrid.

Ian Holyman of ESPN FC reported that several French media outlets are claiming that the Ancelotti saga was finally reaching its end. Some reports even went as far to say that PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has accepted the fact that he will not be able to keep Ancelotti in France.

"

However, with the re-election of Florentino Perez as Madrid president earlier this week and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi reportedly having finally accepted he cannot retain the Italian, L'Equipe - echoing reports in Spanish counterpart Marca on Wednesday - claimed 'Ancelotti, very close to Real' while Le Parisien headlined its story: 'The Ancelotti case in the final straight'.

"

It is believed that Real Madrid would be forced to compensate PSG for Ancelotti’s contract to be bought out. However, there is no reported timetable for when the decisions will officially be made.

If these reports are to be believed, Carlo Ancelotti may be only days away from taking over at Real Madrid.
