Manchester United Transfer News: Red Devils Should Forget About Marco van Ginkel

Richard LangfordJun 1, 2018

Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel is a promising talent, but the Red Devils don't need to spend the time or resources on him. And there is no doubt it would take a little of both to land him.

As John Drayton of the Daily Mail reports, United and Chelsea are in pursuit of van Ginkel, and "United’s chief scout Jim Lawlor flew to the championship to watch the 20-year-old and the Red Devil’s (sic) interest is likely to start a bidding war from £15million."

The interest in the 20-year-old is not surprising.

Van Ginkel has been blossoming with Vitesse Arnhem. His eight goals were third on the team and were instrumental in Vitesse finishing fourth in the Eredivisie.

He has also been impressive on the international stage. He stood out at the Euro U21 Championships before his Dutch side was eliminated.

He is a complete player who can pass and shoot. He's also shown a wisdom in his game that goes beyond his years.

For these reasons, speculation about van Ginkel's future destination has been running rampant. This comes to us from ESPN: "van Ginkel has yet to decide where he will be playing his club football next season. [He] could be the subject of a transfer battle between Manchester United and Chelsea."

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail speculated his price could be around £15 million.

However, if a bidding war does ensue, there is no telling how high that price could go. Manchester United doesn't need to be a part of that process.

For the Red Devils, this would be more of a signing for the future and not the present.

While it is always wise to keep an eye on the future, the mighty Red Devils have the money and the prestige to land players in their prime, and that is what they need to focus on now.

And there are certainly rumors surrounding Manchester United and elite players.

For instance, Cesc Fabregas making the jump back to the EPL is not out of the question. Also, there is the continuing speculation that a certain player named Ronaldo could be returning to his former stomping grounds.

A bidding war with Chelsea for van Ginkel would distract from efforts like those just mentioned, and it is something that Man U would be wise to avoid.
