Chelsea Transfer Tracker: News and Rumours for the Week of June 17
So Jose Mourinho has returned and, as per the club's announcement last week, German international Andre Schurrle will be joining Chelsea this summer.
If you think the Blues' summer transfer dealings are done there though, think again. The Londoners haven't won the Premier League title since 2010, and with their Portuguese manager back at the club he proclaims to love the most, we can expect more comings and goings ahead of the new season kicking off on Aug. 17.
But who will be arriving and who will bidding farewell to Stamford Bridge? This summer has already seen David Luiz linked with a move to Barcelona, via Daily Mail, while Edinson Cavani is rumored to be arriving for £53 million, as per The Guardian.
We gave warning of it in May, and now "silly season" is will and truly here in the Premier League. Sit tight as Bleacher Report keeps you up to date throughout the week with all the latest Chelsea news and gossip.
Last Update: 21 June
Blues Chasing Barca's Thiago Alcantara
1 of 8Much of Europe has been paying close attention to Barcelona's young midfield ace in recent seasons and after his match-winning display for Spain in the recent UEFA Under-21 European Championships, Thiago Alcantara's stock has gone up another notch.
Now Chelsea are reportedly on the scene according to The Mirror and there's good news for the Blues—they can get him for just £15 million after a clause in his contract was triggered at the end of last season.
The 22-year-old failed to play at least 30 minutes in 60 per cent of Barca's games last season, meaning his buy out clause has been reduced.
Chelsea will need to act fast though as Manchester United and Bayern Munich are known admirers, also.
Chelsea Deny Mikel to Galatasaray Rumors
2 of 8Earlier this week John Mikel Obi was linked with a move to Galatasaray, with Turkish newspaper Sabah (via ESPN.co.uk) quoting him as saying:
"I have played at Chelsea for a long time and it's now time for me to leave.
"I'm still only 26 and it's great to receive an offer from a club [Galatasaray] playing Champions League football and doing well in the competition."
As The Independent reports, however, Chelsea and the player himself have denied the rumors, with Mikel saying he never gave an interview to the newspaper.
The Blues are expected to strengthen their midfield ranks this summer, so expect players to be arriving before any leave.
Barcelona Set for £30 Million Mata Bid?
3 of 8He may have said he has no interest in leaving Chelsea (refer to slide five), but it seems Barcelona are undeterred by Juan Mata's desire to remain at Stamford Bridge.
The Mirror is reporting Chelsea's Player of the Year is top of the Catalan club's wishlist after they snapped up Neymar for £40 million earlier this summer and preparing a £30 million bid.
The report adds that Jose Mourinho has vetoed a wage increase for Mata, so with potential storm clouds on the horizon, could it all end with the Blues' talisman departing West London?
Cavani to Join Real Madrid
4 of 8The hopes of Chelsea or Manchester City landing Napoli's Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani have been dashed, with the player himself revealing he has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.
It had been reported that Cavani's dad was expecting his son to move to the Spanish capital (via The Independent) and now the Uruguayan hitman has all but announced the transfer himself.
"I am very calm about my future," he is quoted as saying in Daily Star. "Madrid are a great club and every player dreams of playing there."
"I am a Napoli player for now, though and I’m focused on the Confederations Cup.”
Lewandowski to Snub Blues for Bayern
5 of 8He may be one of Europe's most coveted strikers, but Robert Lewandowski appears to have eyes for just one club this summer—and it's not his current employers Borussia Dortmund or Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all rumored to be after his signature.
No, according to the Daily Star, the Polish hitman will snub the advances of the aforementioned European giants in favor of Bayern Munich.
It may mean sitting out the remaining year of his contract after Dortmund stated they had no intention of selling him to their rivals, but it appears Bayern will get their man, even if they have to wait 12 months.
Luiz 'interested' in Paris Saint-Germain
6 of 8First there were reports of Barcelona coveting David Luiz, and now it seems Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the man who has become a cult hero at Chelsea since joining the club in January 2011.
"I speak about Paris Saint-Germain and its project with my Brazilian team-mates," ESPN is reporting the Brazilian as saying to a French TV channel.
"The club has done some good work in Ligue 1, and there are some very good players such as Lucas Moura, Thiago Motta, Maxwell, Thiago Silva."
Luiz remained silent around the Barca interest, but with him commenting on his interest in PSG, could this be the strongest indication yet that he will be leaving for pastures new this summer?
Mata Isn't Juan for Leaving the Blues
7 of 8Chelsea fans will be relieved to learn that Juan Mata has denied rumors he will be departing the Blues this summer.
Mata, currently on international duty with Spain at the Confederations Cup, told Sky Sports:
"Nobody at Chelsea has told me that Mourinho wants me out.
When I finished the season I was told that they were very happy with my performances and with the two years I've spent with the club.
I have three years left on my contract. I'm very happy with Chelsea.
Mourinho? I'd prefer to wait until I meet him and work with him before I judge him. That's simple logic.
"
Mourinho Taking the Hard Line with Blues Players
8 of 8He's only been officially back at Stamford Bridge for a week, but it hasn't stopped Jose Mourinho from cracking the whip where his absent players are concerned.
The Daily Mail is reporting Mourinho will take the hard line with his players ahead of the new season, and those not willing to adapt to his ways will be quickly ushered out the door.
OK, we know, it's not exactly transfer gossip just yet, but expect a few victims to fall under the Portuguese's regime when the Blues players report for preseason training on July 10. And when they do, Bleacher Report will make sure you know all about it.
