Draft Day Experts Don't Always Know It All

dave cowboyMay 3, 2009

I usually don't write long drawn out articles, so I won't here. The Cowboys draft this year left a few people very dis-satisfied in our attempt to add talent. I, for one, attended a draft day bash with my "group" and not to have a pick on that first day left me feeling ill.

Then I saw the business that transpired on day two and I personally liked it. We stayed true to our board, we never over spent, we reached up a few times, but we got great value that slipped in several other instances.

I, and most others, may only rate this draft as a "C" or perhaps lower, but the main factor will be how Roy Williams performs over the long haul of 2009. If he performs as a No. 1 WR, and we can add maybe 5-6 of these rooks to our depth chart, then this draft is a success. It will climb to the "B" category or higher.

So don't fret cowboy fans, I'm not going to waste your time naming names, cause you all know who we drafted. We did get some good talent at several spots. Linebacker will be a strong point for us, as it should be in a Wade Phillips D.

We get spoiled as Cowboy fans, thinking we should always here that big name mentioned as becoming the next Dallas Cowboy. This draft represents different times coming to the Cowboys, I believe. Money is a factor now, with the new stadium, the pending contract of D-ware, and an UN-capped season on the horizon for next year.

People think that Jerry Jones is "stupid" for drafting himself and not seemingly knowing what he's doing. Well, maybe, just maybe, Jerry might be a little smarter than the so called "experts!"

I think it was the right strategy, the right direction, and the right use of our picks to get the talent that we need. I applaud you Jerry Jones, and thank you for being the backbone of the Dallas Cowboys...and I love the pick of Stephen McGee.
