Hats Off to Pacquiao: Hatton Disappoints Thousands of Brits

JOVY PEREZMay 3, 2009

Ricky Hatton promised the thousands of Brits in attendance during the official weigh in that they won't be disappointed. With that prediction, it produced a howl from the boisterous Pacquiao fans in the crowd.  Pacquiao withstood the Hitman's early barrage and managed to knock down the aggressive fighter twice during the first round; Hatton was very lucky to get out of the initial round alive.

Manny Pacquiao has proven for the second time that he can beat and dominate a bigger opponent.

The second round showcased Hatton's inability to defend against the Pacman's right and left hooks. The ring canvas provided Hatton a temporary resting place after Pacquiao's devastating hook connected again and ended Hatton's lofty goal to dethrown Pacquiao for the best pound for pound title.

The crowd was stunned over the  quick outcome. The concerned look of Hatton's family contrasted the jubilation in Pacquiao's corner. Hatton lay motionless with glossy eyes for a good duration. After all the hoopla and advertising schemes prior to the Big event,  two facts hold true: 1) Pacquiao has cemented his claim as the number one pound for pound fighter and 2)  Mayweather's coming out of retirement serves a purpose; it provides another opportunity for Pacquiao to prove that his best is yet to come.

Mayweather need not look further. Pacquiao is waiting for another blockbuster fight.

Also Pacquiao's victory settled the rift between Roach and Mayweather Sr.

Freddie Roach is the better trainer/coach around and the flamboyant and egotistical fool, Mayweather Sr., better shut his pie hole because he just reserved a spot on boxing's hall of shame.
