Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will be on the cover of Madden NFL 25 for next-generation video game consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4, according to Eric Fisher of SportsBusiness Journal.

Peterson, who was runner-up in the Madden cover vote this spring to NFL legend Barry Sanders, came off a torn ACL to post over 2,000 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012. He also posted 217 receiving yards and one touchdown in the campaign.

In the process, the Vikings made it to the playoffs with a 10-6 record, eventually falling to the Green Bay Packers in the first round. Peterson rushed for 99 yards in the loss.

Peterson defied logic in 2012 when he shattered personal bests in rushing yards and rushing attempts. In fact, he was a mere eight yards short of tying Eric Dickerson for the NFL rushing record in a single season.

The accomplishment drew praise throughout the NFL community, as if Peterson needed any more, as he is widely regarded as the best running back in football.

Of course, the humble 28-year-old has never been one to seek attention for his personal accolades. Beyond his stellar play on the field, he's known as a consummate professional and a great teammate. He has always been about winning a championship, which he has yet to accomplish, through to no fault of his own.

While Peterson will probably shrug off the Madden honor, there's no doubt that he deserves every bit of the attention he gets. He's a future Hall of Famer who is simply a joy to watch...and also utilize as a playmaker in the Madden series.
