Chris Paul, World Peace & Others Read Their Haters' Tweets on Jimmy Kimmel

It was cruel, unusual and gazelles were involved.

Jimmy Kimmel’s latest “Mean Tweets” segment delved into the world of hate NBA players receive on Twitter, and to put it plainly—things got weird.

Continuing its practice of having famous people read ugly messages they’ve received from random Twitter users on television, Sunday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! featured a host of NBA athletes and analysts airing out their Twitter trash (via NextImpulseSports).

Chris PaulKobe Bryant and others whipped out their phones to read some of the hatred that had been slung at them from across the Twittersphere. The results were hilarious and strange, in a I’m-losing-faith-in-humanity kind of way.

Lets break down a few of them, starting with Metta World Peace’s huge problem.

“What’s the difference between Ron Artest and Metta World Peace? Nothing. They are both huge pieces of (bleep).”

Simple and elegant. Metta World Peace has a gift for storytelling, and the way he reads this tweet allows you to practically hear this troll dribbling Ramen Noodle broth on his parents' keyboard. The bite into the apple at the end is perfection, I might add.

“Has anyone noticed that #chrispaul has #MichaelJacksons original nose?”

Mind equals blown.

“Bill Simmons looks like the type of guy who will watch you while you’re sleeping.”

Survey says yes.

“Suck my duck matt barnes.”

When the great Avian flu wipes mankind from the world, we’ll know whose waterfowl to blame.

“Andre Iguodala sucks gazelle (bleep).”

For those of you keeping track at home, that’s two hateful bestiality remarks. Which is two too many.

As a whole, the segment provided an immensely entertaining and insightful peek into the world of anonymous Internet ugliness sports figures deal with on a daily basis.

One thing to consider, though, is the effect this could have on the haters. You never want to feed the trolls, and while reading their trashy tweets on late night television is funny, it’s only adding logs to the online hater hearth.
