Disaster at the Bernabeu: Diaries of a Loyal Madridista!

Braveheart JAmesMay 2, 2009

The day finally came, the match that Madrid was building on every La Liga hope they had ...every match they won to catch up with their arch rivals would mean nothing without a win this day!

Everything seemed ready for Real Madrid to get the league back on fire, they have just closed the gap on Barcelona to a slim four point lead and a win today would mean it's game on again!

But they lost, and lost big time!

I think it was the hardest, worst, and cruelest 90 min any Madridista had to watch, it just felt that Madrid squad could do nothing against a mighty Barcelona midfield...and Juande Ramos just couldn't find a player on the bench to make a difference!

I just hated everything about that match...I hated the feeling of being hopeless, the feeling that you were playing a much better squad which should never be the case with a team like Real Madrid...and for once just this once i knew that the legendary Real Madrid comeback would never happen...because simply we weren't good enough!

After the match, like any loyal fan I couldn't help but wonder what went wrong with my team...after 16 wins with Juande Ramos this was not by far the scoresheet I would have expect and i should feel furious with the team and the coach but I wasn't and no Madridista should!

Yes people, we should be nothing less than proud of this team...Remember how this season was as a whole and you'll know that this was never Madrid's season and was never going to be and I bet you that any team after that disastrous first half of the season would have crumbled under the pressure and not one single fan can blame them!

Injuries to three key players, a presidential scandal that threw Ramon Calderon out the window and altered the scanty stability the white house ever had and finally a change of coach—all of these should have been enough for them to give up this season and plan for the next!

But not Real Madrid, this team pushed and pushed and started to plan and go for a fairytale comeback to try and keep the third consecutive La Liga title in their closets and they almost did it—ask any barcelona fan, they were terrified from the fact that Real Madrid were on the chase just waiting for their one slip-up and were getting more and more terrified as Madrid came closer!

This is why I was proud, proud of the spirit this team has and hopefully will always have ...The same spirit that will make this team pull off miracles in some matches but unfortunately you cant always win with spirit alone!

Real Madrid was playing today was not only playing against a great team having a great season they were also playing against faith...La Liga should have ended 12 weeks ago but this team gave us hope.

Maybe it was cruel how this hope was taken away from us, but that doesn't mean we should forget what they were trying to pull off this season!

So, thank you Real Madrid, thank you players for not giving up and thank you for re-defining words like perseverance, loyalty, and impossible for all your fans...and thank you Robben for trying to get over your obviously still present injury just to be there for your team.

Thank you Juande for pulling the team out of the darkest of times and being an important factor this season!

This team will one day get back on their feet and get crowned again as Spain and European Masters because they are simply Real Madrid and me and every madridista will be there!
