NFL Players: Keep Your Eyes Wide Open

We will never know the details of some of the situations in which our NFL players find themselves. One thing we have observed through the years: Women who say that they just "love" an NFL player are out there, they will travel miles by car, by plane, by train, or by bus (even by bicycle) to get to a professional football game.

These women may not know how to discuss football, but they say they love the game.

This article is motivated by the new movie, "Obsessed." These movies remind me of real life situations told to me by a former NFL player who is almost 70 years old.

Moreover, the movie brought tears to my eyes because I know someone who struggled with some of the issues portrayed in "Obsessed."

The heartbreaking reality is that there have been real life NFL players who were stalked and seduced by married women.

In one case, the woman did her "dirt" so cleverly that the NFL player's wife began to distrust him.  She divorced him.  He suffered trauma from the tragic episode.

It does not matter what his name is; rather, let's try to understand (for the sake of future NFL players) what the predator's game was.

One of my associates used to say, "Buzzards give birth to baby buzzards."  So, the baby buzzards are swarming around the football fields, the locker rooms and the hotels to try to seduce and tempt their prey, the new NFL players.

What might help the new NFL players?

Let's consider that honesty, full disclosure, transparency and commitment to do the right thing will somehow guard the new NFL players from "harms way."

The moral of the story is: There will always be a possibility of an "obsessed person" in the bleachers, waiting to pounce (or bounce) on their prey. 

The lesson to be learned:  Keep your eyes wide open, and not your eyes wide shut.
