Perfect Trifecta
Win: Oxbow
Place: Overanalyze
Show: Orb
Predicted Winner: Oxbow
After running to the front of the pack at the Preakness Stakes and stunting Orb’s chances of winning the Triple Crown, it will be Oxbow that once again steals the show at the 2013 Belmont Stakes.
Despite being marred in the seventh post position—right in the middle of this 14-horse field—Oxbow is an incredibly fast starter out of the gates and will be running hard early to get away from traffic.
Even if Oxbow gets shuffled back at the start, the fact that he will once again be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens will give this horse the advantage when it comes to running through traffic back to the front if needed.
Add in the excellent pedigree of the horse and the fact that he is trained by legendary D. Wayne Lukas and his team, and the chances that Oxbow can steal the third leg of the Triple Crown and his second straight victory are through the roof.
There is a chance that weather could be an issue earlier in the day at Belmont Park (h/t Weather.com), but with the Preakness coming on a wet track after Pimlico was doused in rain, the expectations for Oxbow are still win or bust.
Saturday’s race is going to be amazing.
