NSFW Athlete Injury Pics

Nick DimengoJun 5, 2013

While it's great to see everything going on with athletes through shows like SportsCenter and their personal Twitter pages, sometimes it can be a bit too much.

One of those instances is when they decide to tweet out some pics that honestly make you look for the nearest trash can to release your most recent meal.

Since we don't handle deep bruises or blood very well—why do you think we're writers?—we beg these athletes to keep the phone away from the injury that just occurred, because it's pretty damn disgusting.

Arian Foster (Pulled Hamstring)

1 of 15

Although Texans running back Arian Foster's injury isn't going to make anyone turn away from the computer, it was one that caused quite the controversy after he tweeted it out.

Saying that he posted it because it wasn't a significant injury and that "humor is lost nowadays," his swelled up hammy might just be an x-ray, but the balloon-like size of it shows that it was pretty damn painful.

Christian Ponder (Bruised Arm)

2 of 15

People might have their questions on Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder, but after seeing this pic of his throwing arm after sustaining an injury in last season's finale against the Packers, his toughness shouldn't be one of them.

Looking like he was scratched, punched and then drawn on while passed out after drinking too many beers, Ponder's injury looked like it was pretty uncomfortable to deal with.

Wayne Rooney (Leg Gash)

3 of 15

Remember growing up when refs in soccer games used to check the bottom of your cleats to make sure you weren't wearing metal screw-ins?

Well, Wayne Rooney's crater-like gash on his leg is the reason why they did it.

The cut was deep enough that it both went all the way to the thigh bone, while also astounding surgeons who helped stitch the Man Utd striker up.

Thankfully, Rooney didn't send us a detailed version of the injury, but we've seen it nonetheless.

Matt Schaub (Torn Ear)

4 of 15

At first glance, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub's ear injury might not appear to be terrible, but after staring at it a little longer—and thinking about it happening to yourself—a dry heave isn't completely out of the question.

After taking an illegal hit by Broncos linebacker Joe Mays, Schaub was seen on the sideline bloodied and beaten, with a small piece of his ear ripped off.

Kobe Bryant (Achilles Surgery)

5 of 15

Is it not enough for Lakers guard Kobe Bryant to be one of the most popular athletes on the planet, instead choosing to tweet pictures of him away from the court to connect with fans too?

At first, Bryant kept it PG, giving us a few pics of swollen ankles and stuff.

But after tearing his Achilles in a late-season game, he outdid himself by posting this hideous-looking picture of his surgery.

We like Kobe a lot, but this is not something we were very fond of.

Kris Commons (Swollen Leg)

6 of 15

Everyone likes to think that bigger is better, but when Celtic midfielder Kris Commons ended up with a much bigger leg after an accidental collision with his teammate earlier this year, he learned it's not always a good thing.

What's worse, though?

Him tweeting out the picture for fans to see.

Good Lord, it looks as if there's something living in there.

Johnny Hoogerland (Leg Stitches)

7 of 15

If you've ever wondered what it's like to go full speed into a barbed wire on a bike, cyclist Johnny Hoogerland showed the effects following his head-on collision at the 2011 Tour de France.

Showing some gnarly scars and stitches, the Dutch rider proved he has some serious pain tolerance after such a killer crash.

Willie Young (Cut Finger)

8 of 15

Lions defensive end Willie Young's finger is one of the grossest injuries we've ever seen.

It's seriously like a cesspool of so many different things, that it's tough for us to pinpoint what's the most disgusting part of it.

One thing Young proved after this injury is that he's a tough dude, not only avoiding possible amputation after getting cut to the bone, but then just soaking it in chemicals to help it heal.

Doesn't sound too fun to us.

Amar'e Stoudemire (Hand Stitches)

9 of 15

Maybe we're just a bunch of wussies, but looking at this picture of Amar'e Stoudemire's mangled hand after losing a fight with some glass around a fire extinguisher makes us really squeamish.

Not only is the gash across his hand painful enough to think about, but when seeing the stitches sticking out like they are, it makes for one really ugly sight.

Luckily for him, the cut didn't hit his nerve, otherwise it could have been even worse than it already was.

Forrest Griffin (Busted Knee)

10 of 15

See, kids, this is why you want to wear your knee pads when you're riding your bike around the neighborhood.

The only problem with UFC fighter Forrest Griffin's injury (besides the nastiness of it), is that it didn't happen from falling off a bike or on his Rollerblades, but it actually came after tearing both his ACL and MCL elsewhere.

We could have just taken his word on how bad it was, rather than having to see it on Twitter for ourselves.

Hulk Hogan (Blister)

11 of 15

We honestly don't know if that's actually a blister or if Hulk Hogan developed a seriously strong case of elephantitis on his finger?

Either way, it's disgusting, and the amount of pus that would erupt following the popping of it would probably be enough to make anyone pass out.

Taylor Hall (Head Scar)

12 of 15

Do we feel sympathy for Edmonton Oilers winger Taylor Hall after a teammate stepped on his head with his sharpened skate during practice?

Umm, look at the effects? Of course we do.

But did we need to actually see the picture rather than just reading about the injury?

Absolutely not.

Martin Kampmann (Eye Injury)

13 of 15

We all know that any guy who steps into the Octagon has to be tough.

On top of participating in a sport that is all about knocking out your opponent as quickly as possible, the injuries that can come from those bouts are usually more than just a pulled hamstring like one might get in football or soccer.

So when UFC fighter Martin Kampmann tweeted this pic of his miserable-looking eye injury, it shouldn't shock any of us.

But the shock of having to see it was something our mind almost couldn't handle.

Bradley Smith (Busted Finger)

14 of 15

OK, seriously, now get ready to barf.

These next couple ones will have you covering your mouth with a closed fist, looking away and praying that you never witness anything like it first hand.

In this case, British MotoGP driver Bradley Smith sustained a serious injury during a race earlier this year, having to rely on some hardcore surgery to help repair things.

As you can tell, the thing was completely torn up, exposing all bits of a finger that we'd never thought even existed.

Miguel Torres (Toe and Forehead Injury)

15 of 15

What in the hell is wrong with UFC fighter Miguel Torres and his penchant for tweeting stomach-turning pictures of his injuries?

First, back in 2010, Torres let us see what it looks like to see another man's skull, tweeting a picture of his deep, bloodied forehead following a fight.

But not to outdo himself, the fighter showed everyone what it looks like to have a toe that is hanging on by its last thread.

These photos are so nasty that they're enough to make you lose your appetite for an entire day.
