Belmont Stakes Field 2013: Full Post Positions for Every Horse in 145th Race
The third and final leg of horse racing's Triple Crown will move to New York this weekend, where the 2013 Belmont Stakes will offer thoroughbreds one final chance to prove their worth on the national stage.
After the events of the 2013 Preakness Stakes, there will be no Triple Crown to be won or lost on Saturday, as Oxbow pulled off the upset at Pimlico Race Course and denied Kentucky Derby winner Orb the chance to be the first three-race winner since Affirmed in 1978.
Belmont Park hosted the draw on Wednesday afternoon, and both Orb and Oxbow were installed as the morning line favorites, as we inch closer to the race nicknamed "The Test of the Champion."
America's Best Racing posted a picture of a handwritten draw from the Elmont shortly after the draw:
Merv Huber also had this nifty breakdown of the 14-horse race, complete with the odds that were installed following post positions becoming final:
While Orb and Oxbow will garner most of the early attention after being the only two winners of the Derby and Preakness earlier this year, there are plenty of other horses to follow as we prepare for the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes.
One such horse is Unlimited Budget, who will look to become just the fourth filly to ever win the event while her jockey—Rosie Napravnik—looks to continue a strong summer of high-caliber runs by becoming the first female to win the final test of the Triple Crown.
Strong Derby finishers Golden Soul, Revolutionary and Will Take Charge will also be back in the field for the Belmont, as will Overanalyze and Palace Malice—ridden by two of the last three jockeys to ride a horse to victory at Belmont Park (John Velazquez in 2012 and Mike Smith in 2010).
With the field wide open following Oxbow's Preakness victory and 12 horses eager to get their first win of this Triple Crown sequence, there's no telling which horse will rise to the challenge and earn top honors at Belmont Park on Saturday afternoon.
We do know, however, the complete listing for the draw, so check out the sections below to buff up on your Belmont knowledge—Saturday will be here (and gone) before you know it.
